Yes.
Twenty or thirty years from now, when history text books are written with chapters about the Iraq War just as they are today about the Vietnam War, I would love to have the privilege of saying, "I was there, I was a part of that." I am in the Navy, however, and probably won't be going to Iraq.
I think the most important thing in life is to experience it, and what better way than to experience it by being a part of history, helping others, rebuilding cities and lives and doing it all on the other side of the world in a proud uniform as part of a proud brotherhood and tradition of fellow-citizen and country service?

I don't think you can volunteer for a certain place. You join the military to serve your country not because you are a war junky. No body wants to go to war. The majority of the soldiers of the world would love peace, but that is just a mirage.
The people that are joining now know that there is a greater chance of them going to war and yet the still volunteer .But if there was a way to volunteer I would.

There's an old GI saying "never volunteer for anything" but then again, plenty of old GIs volunteer for hazardous duty assignments.
It's the nature of the professional soldier to want to be in the action whenever there is some action. It's what you train for.
That said, only you can decide if you want to volunteer for that assignment and it's an important decision. War is dangerous.
So, on the one hand, you could get killed. On the other hand, it's what soldiers do and it's good for your career.
When given the choice (many years ago), I volunteered and went to war. I don't regret that decision. But then, that's just me.

Absolutely! For those servicemen/women who are in currently serving time, your time goes by so much faster when you are deployed to the nether regions of the world. Besides, at least you get to do your job while you are deployed. When you are stateside, you find that there are many officers who have nothing better to do than to shine hand rails in the bathroom.
I am almost certain that most veterans would agree with me.
I spent a year in Somalia, nine months in Bosnia, and 1.5 years in Iraq. Nothing is better than coming home to a fat bank account that you could not spend while in country.

No simply because of the old saying "be careful what you wish for" If you are in the position to go to Iraq or Afghanistan and you are in the military, your time will come.

If I was to join the Army, I wouldn't join for the purpose of going to Iraq, and I wouldn't be deterred by it either.
