Sustainable resource management deals with the protection of all natural resources. People working in SRM investigate how we use resources, how we should use them (which isn’t always how we do use them), what affects them, and how they can be best protected and preserved. They try to manage the way people and organizations interact with natural resources to ensure their long-term availability. Environmental conservation therefore is a central feature to sustainable resource management.

The word itself is the key. Sustainability presumes something or products can be created indefinitely. This is somewhat of a misnomer unless you delve into quantum physics. The environmental approach is to examine how much energy is required to produce something and then if it can be recycled add fin item. The management aspect is to calculate all the variables and see if it can be created with the least amount of energy. It is also recognised how the human energy input is required to be part of the process ie. labour calculations. Along the line of this action/reaction (Newtonian physics) there will be losses. Unfortunately because we live in a highly political society, interventions occurs either for the benefit of the whole or possibly on rare occasions to the greatest good for all!
A sustainable resource manager needs to be qualified in most of the physical sciences, plus excellent personnel skills.
He or she would need to satisfy the needs and conditions of employment of the board of governors.

Managing and utilising resources to meet human and conservation needs in a way that does not compromise the ability of future generations to meet those same needs. I think that's something like the technical definition of sustainability.

from a personal individual and environmental conservation point of view:
the definition would be that of managing our resources in a sustainable way.

this might translate to not watering your lawn when you know that you are using up ancient aquifers and depleting water resources in order to maintain something that is essentially unsustainable and unnecessary.

there are dozens of things individuals can do in everyday life to help manage the world's natural resources ... and individuals (as well as corporations and governments)
have to do this - they have to take responsibility to find ways and lifestyles which will not deplete all our natural resources.

Sustainable resource management to me means that you can renew everything you take from nature. In forestry you would need to replant as many trees as you harvest in a given area. I think since we have already taken so much that is lost forever, we should try not to simply sustain but to increase our resources. In forestry replant 25 % more than is taken from the land. In this way we can help bring mother earth back into balance as it should be.
