If you want a dog you're going to need more money than that. Aside from the purchase price, there's vet bills (shots, spay/neuter), grooming ($40-55 every 6-8 weeks), obedience class, boarding when you go away, food, bowls, crate, leash, collar, toys etc. Dogs are very expensive.
Good luck!

I would recommend you get either the puppy or the labtop.
Try to find a dog on petfinder- there are great dogs on there and I wouldn't be shocked if you found a purebred bichon- but would urge you to consider a bichon mix if there's one too- or any little white fluff-ball mix. Let your present be a present to a homeless pup too.
Your dog will probably cost from 100-450 depending if it includes shots, neuter, etc. Lets go with $450 and assume that if you got one cheaper you had to pay the difference in vet bills anyway.
Now you have a dog- you need, food, toys, treats, bowls, a pooper-scooper, a crate, leash, collar, tag= I'm guessing about $200 total. So you're at $650. Any extra should be saved for more food as she/he needs it and any emergencies that could arise.
A bichon from a breeder will cost at least $1000 with NO shot, no neuter etc- then you'll need more lik $500-$600 for supplies and vet care. Good luck. Maybe buy yourself the dog and ask for the laptop for christmas.

Wait $800 for both? That price is not going to happen. Dogs cost a lot more and so do computers especially laptops.
Bichon pets from a good breeder is probably $800 for a puppy alone. That doesn't include shots, food, or anything else.

I totally agree with bassetbut. Not only do you have to pay for the puppy but you have to give it a lot of tender love and care. You a have to think about who is going to watch the puppy when you are in school. I young pup needs alot of time spent socializing and trianing. A young pup should not be kept in his crate for more than 2 hours he will not be able to hold his bladder until he is older. Also you have to make sure that is it okay with your parents. Before buying a puppy that will depend on you for everthing you have to sit down and really think about it. Best wishes!

As your friends can afford to give you $20 each, you have just over 4 months to multiply those dollars. You need to go to a warehouse and buy in bulk. If one of your friends likes toffee bars and you know that he / she buys at least one bar every day and sometimes two, you know that you could sell well over 100 toffee bars to that one person. Therefore, buy a box of 100 toffee bars and sell them at 1 or 2 cents below the price of the local store. Assuming that you make 5 cents profit per bar, that's an extra $5 from that one friend You know what your friends like so buy and sell using the birthday money to start you off. As you make profit, buy other things that can make you greater profit, such as PC Games, console games, DVDs etc. Work hard and you can turn those $20s around.

When I was your age, I would walk neighbor's dogs for $1/walk or give them a bath for $5. I'd also rake/sweep leaves from their yards for a small fee. Also, consider doing a car wash with friends and splitting the money or having a small garage sale with things you don't use anymore. Ask your parents if there are things you can do around the house to make money. My parents used to give me money for doing extra chores when they knew I was saving up for something. Hope this helps!
