When the information concerning this later proved to be totally absurd.
(CNN reporter Brian) TODD: In fact, a U.S. government official familiar with the investigation now says there were valid explanations for all four incidents in that bulletin and no charges will be brought in any of these cases.
(on camera): TSA officials first told us the incident with Sara Weiss got put on that bulletin because of a systems error. But they also say they were right to put all these incidents on that alert because whenever they find suspicious objects, they have to run them to ground and tell law enforcement officials to look out for items like that.
The story also featured an interview with Weiss (pictured at top), the 66-year-old woman who had a leaky ice pack in her luggage visiting family in San Diego, and she confirmed that a federal agent asked her: "Do you know Osama bin Laden?" And you thought the government had stopped looking for him!

This is in R&S because everything concerning this topic is made into a Religious one -- not a political one.

Media sensationalism at its best. I loved they made the 4 incidents sound recent, yet some were 9 months old. Gimme a break.

There is a real threat, and there will be probably a lot of destruction and abominations before it goes.
However, politicians and rulers often like 'bogeyman' threats, as it diverts attention away from their own failings, fear being such a strong overriding instinct in humans. (Read Machiavelli for some of the worse tricks politicians get up to.)
In the UK a suspected airport plot several years ago was very conveniently timed when the government was in an embarassing spot. (However as we have seen the islamic terrorists have targetted airports again recently.)

A RELIGIOUS ANSWER FOR YOU :)
VERSE:
Can a man walk on hot coals without his feet being scorched?
-- Proverbs 6:28
mes: 24-35 They'll protect you from wanton women,
from the seductive talk of some temptress.
Don't lustfully fantasize on her beauty,
nor be taken in by her bedroom eyes.
You can buy an hour with a whore for a loaf of bread,
but a wanton woman may well eat you alive.
Can you build a fire in your lap
and not burn your pants?
Can you walk barefoot on hot coals
and not get blisters?
It's the same when you have sex with your neighbor's wife:
Touch her and you'll pay for it. No excuses.
Hunger is no excuse
for a thief to steal;
When he's caught he has to pay it back,
even if he has to put his whole house in hock.
Adultery is a brainless act,
soul-destroying, self-destructive;
Expect a bloody nose, a black eye,
and a reputation ruined for good.
For jealousy detonates rage in a cheated husband;
wild for revenge, he won't make allowances.
Nothing you say or pay will make it all right;
neither bribes nor reason will satisfy him

I think it's funny that whenever things are going badly for Bush, he pulls out another 'terrorist threat' to try and scare the populace. Sort of a wag-the-dog scheme.
If the terrorists are back to full strength and over here planning something, then what have we accomplished these past 4 years in Iraq? A big fat nothing, that's what. And all that guff about how 'we're fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them over here' is just bunk.

It's not dishonest; it keeps people from being complacent.
We know that this is the terrorists' methodology.
We need to investigate & run such incidents to ground.
Even if some are misguided pranksters.
