I would have to say the seashore - not a sunny tropical beach, but a misty rocky shore cool climate seashore.

Have you ever been to the northern coasts of Oregon? It's typically foggy there and the trees are tall and evergreen. There is a place in particular where I walked:

It had moss covered trees. It had ferny forests. It had streams and bridges. And it had sandy areas next to the beach especially when the tide was low. When by the sea, there are stunted trees on a highpoint of a cliff that looked like they were bonsai.

If ever there was a place where one might gain peace with nature, it was that place.

Any seashore. My first seashore was on the west coast of Scotland. It was cool to cold, grey, windy, mussels and bladderwrack seaweed strewn on the sand, the ruins of a small stone auld kirk on the grassy bank above the sands, and an old graveyard. I used to go there to think and let my mind and heart relax--something about the elemental quality of it that brought me from agitation to peace.

But I've known many other seashores, and the Caribbean from the Yucatan at 3:30 or 4:00 in the morning as Venus begins to hang low in the sky, huge and luminous, or to lie in bed and hear the pounding of the Pacific at night, to bask in the salt air of the se----no, I've never met a seashore I didn't like.

For me this is a very hard question to answer as I love both. I've lived in the mountains and by the shore.

If I wanted to go for a stroll it would be the sea shore.
If I wanted a more active walk it would be the mountains.

That is a tough one. I think I'd have to go with the seashore. However, I want to be in a warm climate so if I feel so inclined, I can wade.

Definitely seashore because you're less likely to get eaten by a bear or mountain lion.

I am with you, seashore. I have spent some time in Maine. It sounds like that's just what you're looking for.

I like the seashore. No matter what beach you're at, you could look out beyond the waves, and it all seems so infinite.
