I don't think anyone's managed it with the Qumran scrolls. A couple of the Nag Hammadi vessels were lost shortly after they were found, some burned and some sold to collectors before authorities got wind of it.

I had a friend whom bought copies from Canada, the U.S. don't really like the scrolls, because they speak a lot about being non-materialistic. I was blessed when I got to read them, all you really need to know is the scrolls talked about living a simple life on every other page...The Bibles of today Know nothing about living simple, but a lot about some a_shole satan cat.

The scrolls seen on display are not the original scrolls, they are duplicates not unlike the U.S. Constitution oin display.

The originals are kept in a pnewmaticly sealed safe with a nitrogen atmostphere to remove moister.

There are many scrolls. Some are on display in a museum in Jerusalem and others are in a travelling exhibit. Like most museum collections, the majority is not on display an usually well protected.

The Dead Sea scrolls consist of thousands of fragments.
There is a museum in Israel where you can see some.
They were discovered in jars in caves by Bedouin arabs.
They would break off pieces to sell to archaeologists.

I've seen them as part of a traveling display. They're pretty tightly sealed behind glass, not only to protect from theft but also to preserve them. I don't think they'd be easy to steal at all.

It's easy to see them, all you have to do is buy admission to a museum. I believe right now most of them are in Israel.

They are locked up. You can see photocopies of them in a museum over there.
