about a tablespoon or two. it really depends on the food you are using. I have a cockatiel and he gets 2 Tbs a day, so your parakeet will need the same or a little bit less. You can also try checking out the packaging on the food bag, since they usually list the amount of daily food intake required.

Try this method: Take a certain amount of food (that you know that is more than he will eat) and weigh it. You can buy one of those food scales and that should work. Record how much it weighs and feed it to your bird. The next day, empty the food bowl onto the scale and minus the weight from the weight from the previous night. Do this for about 3 or 4 days and come up with an average. Just make sure you give your budgie plenty of fruits and veggies with his seed diet and your budgie will be fine.

It varies from bird to bird, but a general amount would be about half a cup.
Of course this is just a general suggestion and can change based upon whether your bird kicks food out of the bowl, likes or dislikes the food, or is a very young or very old bird.
