is it possible for flac files to be played directly from the player without decompressing it first? a codec or player that decompress and play it at the same time?

is it possible for flac files to be played directly from the player without decompressing it first? a codec or player that decompress and play it at the same time?

after 5 min.
i've found different players that can do it.. So i'll just post it here for the benefit of other people..iTunes,JetAudio,XMPlay,iTunes( codec from Xiph required) etc.

you can still answer the question for other players..

Try VLC . . . it has a codec for it. It has codecs for just about everything else too. I think the only thing I've had to download was Realplayer codecs. Good luck!

According to the VLC site, it plays FLAC files. So you shouldn't have to do anything to them unless you have them in an archive (zip, tar, tar.gz, or just gzipped).

FLAC stands for Free Lossless Audio Codec, an audio format similar to MP3, but lossless, meaning that audio is compressed in FLAC without any loss in quality. This is similar to how Zip works, except with FLAC you will get much better compression because it is designed specifically for audio, and you can play back compressed FLAC files in your favorite player (or your car or home stereo, see supported devices) just like you would an MP3 file.
