You are correct, there is no point to it. It has often blown my mind how some people can fail to see how ridiculous certain aspects of their beliefs are! This, of course, is one of the most ridiculous of them all! Another, is the failure to comprehend that the terms, "unconditional love" and "eternal damnation" are absolute contradictions, and 1000% mutually exclusive! *sm*

Yet another question Christians will no doubt only answer with "you can't question god, he's my creator/savior, and blah blah blah"
Bottom line is God created everything or so the Christians tell us, and therefore he can fix anything that's wrong with it...so therefore he is in essence the root of all things good and evil, he is responsible for our problems, and cmon...a battle at the end of time? and then for all eternity you either burn or worship him forever, and satan is thrown into bottomless pit for 1000 years? then what? nothing else will happen ? what a drab and boring existance...a 5 year old could come up with a more interesting plan than this if they were to become god...at least with them we could eat junk food, and play outside, and watch cartoons for all eternity...sounds more fun doesnt it???
Bottom line is that GOD doesnt exist, and if he does, well his plans for the rest of time just dont coincide with mine...i have no reason to burn or devote an eternity to worshipping an egotistical overgrown kid with a magnifying glass over us ants...i say screw god and his perfect plan...lets just have fun sinning!!!

God has allowed satan this time to show his true colors- if he had destroyed satan as soon as he started his deception & taunting in Heaven- then the other Angels might have questioned God being just- So in this time frame everyone in heaven has been observing-- taking notes-- deciding which ones of us are worth replacing those who left-- satan & his angels chose to rebell therefore were tossed out of heaven- so we get the choice to follow the rules & replace the rebellious ones - The big show down ??- According to the Bible- when Christ comes again-- any non-believer (those that refused Christ's salvation) will die at the sight of His Glory- satan will be bound to this earth for 1000 years- no one to deceive- no one to draw into his web.. after the 1000 years- God will bring New Jeruselum down to the Earth-- all the lost will be raised (2nd resurrection) then they will be judged-- satan will try to rally them up to overtake New Jerusulem- at which point all will be destroyed by fire..... purifying the earth-- for us... so-- actually no real showdown- more like a smack down -

You are right.Ther is no battle then. The battle ends when God comes back. That is the time when evil ends because the time of the free will is over.

The only thing I can think of is that the war is supposed to be some sort of test. Either that, or God's omnipotence for some reason does not affect Satan (which leads me to believe that he was a little more than a powerful angel, perhaps even a force greater and older than God himself).

Well yes he could, and Jesus could have saved himself from the cross too, but then where would we be?
Truth be told, everyone questions the Love of God who doesn't know his love and everyone questions the power of God who doesn't understand it but no one ever looks at the justice of God which is just as important as the other two facets mentioned. If God is perfect, and he is, he must be Perfect Righteousness, and in order to be perfect Righteousness, you cannot just throw away one aspect of yourself which is Justice.
The justice must be accounted for.
Perfect Love
Perfect Justice
All Knowing
All powerful
All things must be in perfect balance, which requires perfect justice.

As a matter of fact, what is written is that
Satan will, with a number of Nations listed in Scripture, come against the Children of God. The description of the place they will come thru in order to attack us is described as being Alaska. The main ally of Satan is clearly listed as Russia (then called "russ", later changed to Russia). It is written that we will never have to lift one arm into that battle, but that Christ himself will stop them in their tracks. No battle needed; just done, kaput, quick demise. The stink of the dead will be smelled for miles around. Scavengers will eat the flesh and clean things up. Anyway, the really interesting thing about that particular prophecy, is that we bought Alaska from Russia for a mere
pittance. Ironic, isn't it?
Bible Prophecy tells us that after the demise of the ruler of Iraq, that we are to watch out for the next trouble maker: who is it listed as being? Iran and Russia, among other smaller nations. All you have to do is pick up todays newspaper and see thats coming to pass as we speak. Russia and Iran have alliances; Russia is providing arms to Iran. Russia is speaking against Israel constantly. Things are going exactly as they are written. Reading the Prophets writings (with understanding) is like reading tomorrows newspaper, today.
As far as why not prevent such wars as the end time one with Russia? Because you need to understand that this war, this controversy did not start in this flesh age.
It began long before we ever read of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.
The controversy is between who should be the rightful power to sit on the throne and be King in the Eternity; Christ or Satan?
Each soul alive today (you and me and all of us) have a soul that is far older than you realize. We were all present way before Adam and Eve, and we were all in one way or another involved in that war that Satan had started eons and eons ago.
This is why we are here in the flesh today;
God decreed that each soul would come thru the flesh, with all memory erased, to make an ultimate decision of who they would choose to follow. His reasoning is simple: we only want those who wish to have Christ as King, to be included in the Eternity. We want to weed out all those others; this is why God does not present himself to the public today: if he did, everyone would act accordingly. No, he wants all of us to show our truest colors.
Then the tares will be weeded out and gone.
But don't think for one moment that He is not well-aware of what each soul is doing and saying. Those who set themselves up as the enemy of Christ will be done away with. Those who don't believe in him will have fish hooks placed into their jaws and they will have their heads turned around using those fish hooks, to see that God does exist.
We live in a time when the Prophets wished they could be alive on Earth for.
In short, the reason to allow the whole thing to occur is because when these things do occur, certain people will be participating against God and others will be stedfast and loyal on the side of God. This is what we want to see: this is the final evidence of the
"who's who". Each soul has to be given the opportunity to show those true colors, and they will; many are already showing their colors against God, and they are already marked as such. If they have a change of heart, they will survive. If they do not, they will be destroyed. The day is getting long, and soon it will be dusk, the end of the day.
The end of THEE DAY.

The point is the battle between good and evil. Good will win. Satan knows this but he will try anyway. He has recruited a lot of help but stands no chance against God. Don't question it, just believe it.

You my fren have certaintly achieve Enlightenment.
Those are the kind of question that religious people avoid talking about because they were sold on the idea right from weaning of their mother breast.
Here's another good question.
Why do Jesus have to die on the cross when his Almighty Father God can declare the human race sin free with a click of His fingers?

you are thinking of battle in human terms. one angel slayed 185000 men in one night it won't be long and drawn out like human battles. and as for exactly how it is going to take place... the point is so all can see God is the sovern of the universe, and there will be no reason to allow rebellion again
