okay here's some things to think about.

#1. about one in ten teenagers have an eating disorder. This means they have an unhealthy obsession with being super (abnormally) thin (like most of todays models are) and are physically harming themselves to lose weight. They are literally killing themselves (Anorexia is deadly) to look a certain way. AVOID the obsession. Eating disorders are a living nightmare, I know.

#2. at your age, height, and weight, you could lose some weight and be the healthier for it. But the point is to NOT obsess over it.

#3. you are 12 and only 4'11" This means you will probably have a growth spurt in the next year and a half. When you DO, you could in a very short time, shoot up to, say, 5'3" (which isn't even TALL, many many girls get much taller). BUt the point is, at 5'3" 120ish is a HEALTHY weight and doesn't look fat. So what I'm saying is, give yourself some time and you will "grow into" your weight.

#4. In the meantime, eat a healthy diet, and exercise regularly. You may lose some weight doign that. But the point is to get into healthy habits so that you will easily maintain a healthy weight.

Make supper the lightest meal of the day. That might help you lose some weight. But don't obsess. GIve yourself some time to finalize your height and weight before worrying too much about it.

In the early developement stages of life such as childhood it is extremely common to be slightly overweight. This is because your body is struggling with what people call "baby fat". This will all melt away in a couple years, however the most important thing to keep in mind now is to be healthy. Eat a lot of vegetables and fruits and limit your sugar intake, like sodas and candybars. Also keep active by running or playing sports. This will help you to be more fit and to lose some weight. If you focus on drinking a lot of water and keeping your body hydrated you will also shed some pounds of water weight. If you still have concerns about your weight you should consider speaking to your parents about seeing a nutritionist or your family practice doctor to get a professional opinion.

Has your doctor said you have to lose weight? Don't come to us until you go to a doctor first. And they can probably tell you what you should do before coming here. Something you can start right now is making sure you're eating healthy though, lots of veggies and fruits, and cut out sodas and snack food (or make an apple a snack). Go see a doctor though, to get a better idea of what to do.

You are slightly overweight, Honey. But not really fat. If you lose about 20 pounds, you'll be golden.

Have you tried drinking water rather than sodas, and playing outside more? Even the coach at school should be able to offer you suggestions.

Good luck!

honestly, i consider 120 lbs to be skinny, not fat. But that's just me. If you really are concerned though you should visit your doctor and he/she will tell you how much weight you have to lose and how to do it.
