Hey everyone! I could use some help. I'm a teen and I want to redo my room. I was thinking that a beach themed room would be SO cool, because I love the beach, although I don't live near one. I have a beautiful navy blue quilt that my grandma made. I really want to use that, but I don't know how to really match that with a beach themed room. I love the color blue for my walls and for anything! i also like sea shells, dolphins, and things like that. Most of the places I've found that have beach themed items, are too "OLD". Please give me something to work with! Thanks! God Bless

Sand, sand lots of sand.. NO just kidding that would be a nightmare !! Maybe with your grandma's quilt you can make pillows from beach towels.. .LIke the "old fashioned" red/white striped towels.. That would be cute ! You could go a little "retro" and get one of those lamps filled with all sorts of sea shells, but put a cool shade on top ! Depending on the size/shape of your room you could use a cool beachy type chair as extra seating or a reading chair! For my friends room we were able to contact J. Crew which was popular at the time and get a life size poster of a model he was at the beach.. So, we cut him out and used him on her wall ! Maybe something like that.. Use an Ambercrombie/Fitch AD beachy scene on the walls or better yet snap some photo's of you and your friends at the beach or pool.. Use a waterproof disposable so you dont' ruin a good camera ! Do, you know anyone that's good at art? If so get an old window pane and take out the glass so it's just the wooden pane, you can even buy these at craft stores.. Paint it to look old/weathered (crackle paint) and get a canvas backing that fits the back of the frame.. Have you or a friend paint a beach landscape on the canvas to hang on the wall... So, it would look like a window looking outside ! For your furniture try a Shabby Chic style.. Good luck...

Hi, great idea! I made my bathroom into a nautical (not really beach, I guess) theme by painting the walls dark blue, the trim and cabinets a brilliant white and hanging a white curtain. I then put a picture of a lighthouse in a white frame on the wall. It looks really sharp. You can use a dark color on the wall if you have lots and lots of white to offset it. Anyway, that's not really beachy, but it's a way to use your grandma's navy quilt.
For beach theme, I like light aqua, tans (like sand), bright lime green and aqua stripes that remind you of cabanas or beach umbrellas. Also, seahorses, mermaids, sailboats, seashells, sunglasses, palm trees, and sand buckets to hold stuff in.
These are my ideas, I hope they help. Have fun!!

Buy large vases, fill them halfway with sand, then add some seashells and small colorful rocks. Paint your walls a light blue, and your navy quilt will fit in. You can also make (or buy) shadow boxes. You can display seashells, small dolphin knicknacks and things like that. You can also buy photographs of the ocean that could look really nice on your wall. I hope this helped!

You could go to one of those party stores and get netting to drape on your walls, faux grass skirts and use them as fringe around a table or desk, get a small umbrella and hang it upside down from the ceiling light, buy a fish mobile, get a couple of bobble hula dolls, and fill a round glass baking dish with sand and populate it with a little saucer of water and some shells (and some little people dolls if you still have some). Also, get a sound effect CD of beach sounds and play it very low.

You can get lots of palm tree stuff. Pillow cases, decals, posters, blow-up things. Those are neat beach items. So are surf boards.

I've seen surf board rugs and wall hangings. How about different fish....or sea shells....sea horses. Those are all beach-related.

How's that for starters?

Blessings in His name.

I just decorated our guest room like this and it looks great. I used Sherwin Williams paint called Mountain Air, which is a pale blue. Your quilt will be great. I added cream colored accents (picture frames, side table, etc.). Good luck!

Pier 1 sells seashells you can buy those and put it in a glass vase for decoration. You can also buy some poster of the sea and put them in some cheap frames.

Try Party supply stores. Such as Party City, Garden Ridge, etc. They usually have lots of cool things.

Pier One Imports store has lots of things to help, which they can be pricey, but you can get some great ideas there, I think.
Love that place.
