The legal age to drink is whatever it is in the country you're in. So if Australia is 18 then have fun if you're 18. It doesn't matter if you're US Navy or not.

while the AUS drinking age is 18, the individual commands have the option to enforce the American drinking age of 21.

This is typically especially true when OZ is a Liberty Port.

and anybody in Alice Springs are going to be old enough anyway, almost no first termers get sent there.
