A church is a gathering of people that come together for a common cause, anything like this can be classified a church, although today most people classify the church as something to do with christianity or the building christians meet in.

A "church" is a building used for religious worship by followers of a common religion. A "Church" is the organization that leads a given religion, ie, the Roman Catholic Church refers to the administration and/or entirety of the religion.

a church is a building where people can find sanctuary,a peace to communicate with God.Our nation was founded on religious freedom,,and that freedom give us the right to build churches, and worship as a group in our religious beliefs.I feel churches exist because people think they have to worship as a group inside a building.for one thing the bible tells us to gather.in Jesus's time they had temples, but he preached outside, because he had such a large crowd.churches can be tents, just a large open tin roof, pavilion, glass,a one room,in a shopping mall,at a school auditorium(we actually have a church that worships in the school auditorium on sun.) A civic center,in Houston now there is a huge church where they use to play basketball.anywhere..God said if 2or 3 gather in my name,I will be there.

The Greek word for church is "ecclesia" which means the "called out ones". The church of God is a spiritual church composed of all of the born again believers in Jesus Christ that God has called out of this world's system and set apart for Himself.
Believers congregate at church buildings to worship God, grow in the knowledge of Him and his truth and how to apply it to their daily lives, and to fellowship and form relationships with other members of the body of Christ.
1 Peter 2:4 As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, 5 you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 4:11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. 15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ,
