If something like that were to happen...we would end up just paying more for the same product. The reason why things are coming from overseas is because companies state that in order to give competitive prices...they basically pay for cheap labor, don't provide health benifits, etc to these workers so that they can sell it at a cheaper price for the American consumer. Well, most of are oil is actually domestic, but as for the other things. Heaven forbid, I might have to keep my 10 year old TV for another ten years. I would have to 'gasp' by locally grown vegetables and meat. Fruit. Oh no more bananas. What would I do. That might actually be a good thing for this country. We would stop consuming and wasting so much and might actually begin producing.

Immediately, there would be a short term drought of items. Electronics and technological products would be 90% gone. Then we would all rely on our local economy, local farmers, local companies, local manufacturing, which is a great thing, and buy less "crap", i.e. posters, mugs, clothing, and learn to live on less things. In the USA, we would be eating more apples, some veg like lettuce and celery, chicken, milk, bread, north american fish, and pre-packaged foods, as they are made in the USA and we have enough supply of that despite the import status of more tropical/exotic foods. We would have much less clothes, as they produce 90% of our shoes and garments. In all, I wouldn't mind because I think I can live on the above foods and I never spent extra money on getting the latest iPOD. Also, we really don't need as much clothes as we all buy. We might actually learn to *gasp* live on less!
