That's a pretty thin line really. But I would say the line that separates those two is really two things. One is the quality of her choice of men. If she's having casual sex with really slimy guys, or just any guy that's willing, then she's more of a slu*. Also, if she's having casual sex with more than one guy at a time, not simultaneous, but has several guys she switches between, then she's a slu* again.
In order to simply be casual sex there has to be a certain level of exclusivity and some form of relationship. Sleeping with anyone you meet is not casual, that's slutty. But if you sleep with someone that you know, and both of you are aware there's no permanent relationship, but are just helping each other get laid, then it could be considered casual sex. The thing is, that casual sex doesn't last long. Either it turns into some kind of romantic entanglement, or it becomes outright promiscuity.

someone you care about and trust (and they feel the same way back) but you're not in love w/ but you might love them. some one that neither one wants a serious long term relationship that would head towards marriage because of reasons obvious to ea of you (no, this doesn't involve either one being married either) . perhaps a situation where you just could not live under the same roof (ex boyfrien or ex husband) but you truly have feelings for each other. some one like this person/relationship to hold you when you need to be held.......... instead of becoming a slu*. and each encounter w/ them doesn't always involve sex.....more like a best friend that loves you and you love them but you sleep together sometimes. and no i'm not a teenager...i'm 40+.

It's not casual so long as you keep your tie on. There is no such thing as "sin". If your gut tells you it's wrong, then it's wrong but don't let your morality be dictated by a bronze-age set of beliefs from the bible, the same book that's OK with slavery, incest and mass murder among other things.

There isn't a difference.
You have sex with someone who loves you and respects you and if you get pregnant will stay by your side and raise the child together. You want someone who is mature, honest and trustworthly. Casual sex offers nothing but an opportunity for the guy to get his rocks off.
