I'd be more concerned about why it's on. Get a good mechanic to examine your system, you don't want the bag either to fail to go off or, worse still, not go off when needed.

When the air bag light flashes that means the inflatable restraint system will not work. Those codes are read and cleared with the Data link connector. Special VW scan tool is needed to discover which item has failed. Repair that item and clear the code. Don't just go off and try to unplug or mess with AIR BAG because of the speed of deployment they can be dangerious.

The airbag light means the airbag control module has sensed a fault somewhere in the system.

If you reset the system, the module would very quickly re-discover the same fault, and re-illuminate the light.

The only way to properly extinguish the light is to have the system interrogated by a main dealer to find out what fault the system has found, and then repair the fault. The module should then notice that the fault is no longer there and put the light out.

If it's anything like the Audi's it'll be the connector under either the driver's seat or the passengers seat. they just get a bit dry/loose and hence the system detects a fault and stops it all from working. If you are going to have a look at it try and make sure you wear an earth strap as the system can be a bit sensitive to static. Or just don't wear any Nylon?!?

Hello -- I had a similar problem with my Volkswagen T5 Transporter, the airbag warning light came on after I had driven through a particularly deep pothole. I took the vehicle to my local Volkswagen dealer, they inspected the airbag sensors decided there was nothing wrong plugged into their computer and cancelled the warning light. What's more it didn't cost me a penny, but its something you should get checked out by the experts. Cheers Gizz.
