my cousin's friend was telling me that in his school, there are seperate elevators for guys and for girls ... i found it a little odd. he then told me that even for the junior college block (we're talking 16-18 year olds), its the same concepts - seperate for guys and girls! do you think this insitute is overdoing it or is just being cautious? do you approve of the concept?

I think that school is being overly cautious. The problems between males and females develop when they're young children and are constantly being separated. To continue this segregation to such an extreme degree so close to adulthood only reinforces the idea that male and female are different (which they are) but it also encourages the proverbial "battle of the sexes."

Anytime segregation occurs, it carries with it the idea that one group is better than the other. It doesn't matter how "equal" one tries to make it--that elitist mentality will set in. Okay, granted, I understand things like separate bathrooms for males and females. (Although I think that if boys and girls were taught to use the same bathrooms from a young age, they would grow up not thinking anything of it. Another issue altogether.) But separate elevators? What's next? Separate drinking fountains? Separate tables in the lunchroom? Separate sections of the classroom? The front for the boys and the back for the girls? Or vice versa? Either way, one group is favored. And they wonder why men and women have a hard time relating to one another!

That sounds gross, but is a good way to protect the girls. I'm a guy and i can say this because me personally feel like touching a girl if she looks seductive or anything like that. You know, when we grow, our hormones start doing that crap and we get turned on. The school authorities are just trying to avoid any trouble. Even 16 - 18 year olds are old enough to commit any mistakes like touching or whatever you call it. I'm a 17 year old myself. It's just being cautious. I don't think there's nothing overdone here. They don't want any trouble and are avoiding it at the most possible level.

I don't know that it's about discipline....not enough facts, but I will say whatever the school rules are, they are. I believe there aren't enough rules for kids in the schools or at least they certainly aren't being enforced. Separate elevators sounds like they are getting kids to and from their classes with a lot less hassle inbetween. So be it.

That is a good idea. Some girls might feel nervous about getting into an elevator with a bunch of guys.

I think it is a great idea! with an elevator being a close and personal space to many bad things could happen. the school is protecting itself and the students by doing this!@

Yes i do approve of the concept because most guys are overtly into touching and those kind of stuff, so yes the school is doing good to protect the girls from sexual assualts
