Yesterday, I put a pork butt (that's a *front* shoulder, not a rear quarter!) in the crockpot, and dumped a pound of good sauerkraut atop it, left it on low for about 9 or 10 hours. Added a little bit of brown sugar after that, and served it atop mashed potatoes (made from unpeeled russets).

I'm still in heaven, thinking about last night's supper. Usually, I think of adding BBQ sauce and serving it as pulled pig sandwiches, but ooh, mama, this was good!

Mario Batali says bone-in pork butt is his favorite cut. His recipe (see link below) is good, too. The secret is cooking butt a loooooong time.
