personally i believe that once, a long time ago, mankind knew where they had come from and there was no mystery.
Then a disaster happened on this planet, wiping out thousands of people and coverring all traces of civilisation and technology. The few survivors re-poulated this world handing down their stories of the past telling their children about the great technology they had. Without any concept of this technology, the stories became adapted to suit the limits of human imagination. Therefore (strictly as an example) stories like ezekiels wheel in the bible would be understood as something mystical or spiritual, whereas todays generation would immediately think space ships.
I believe that religion likes to keep man in a state of ignorance by encouraging faith and denying learning or scientific investigation.
Oddly science, as it discovers more and more actually proves the bible, if one takes the bible as the best record of pre history instead of taking it as something mystical.

I see alot of people answering atheist. Are they or are they actually have Agnostic beliefs such as I do.
I am await positive proof that there is a God. So far I have not been shown any other than a book which I have found lies and untruths in. I don't diss the people who do believe though, that is their choice though I do believe they are all praying for the same god just under different languages and interpretations of the Bible. For some it enhances their lives though also places the responsibility of their decisions elsewhere.
As I say if there is a God show me 100% unfaliable proof then I will bend to my knees and ask forgiveness until then .......................................
I love and live my life the best way I can

I got the call from Jesus one day in 2001 during a friend's baptism service so what I believe started from that really. Having believed previously in everything from palmistry, tarot, past lives, reincarnation, God, whatever was going, I had a life changing moment and chose to follow only Jesus. Not blindly, I looked into the claims of Christianity, but with meeting Jesus I could only choose in the end to believe the Bible. If you are a Christian, I don't think we can pick and choose which parts of the Bible to believe and which to discard just because they don't happen to agree with our personal preferences. God is the same as he has always been, he cannot and will not change, so his Word endures. I believe God created the universe, I believe in original sin, and Satan, angels, etc and that Jesus is God in form of man who came to pay the price for my sin and yours. It's a gift, I have accepted it and that alone is my basis for the hope I have of eternal life in heaven.

I wouldn't call it ignorance. I'm in the UK and understand the differences in religion and cultural equality but what i don't understand is Fundamentalism and extremism ! What religion tells it's followers to strap a bomb to themselves and go forth to a shopping mall and cause devastation in the name of GOD !?
All religions are based on love and NONE condone violence to your fellow man ! I don't necessarily believe in god but do believe in a Higher Being. If that is God then ;-
1) He'll tell me on my Judgement Day and
2) He'll Forgive me !
LAST ROMAN i think your judging Cristian's aren't you ?
And the roman catholics aren't exactly bloody saints are they !!
were you an alter boy ?
so hypocritical !

I am not even an atheist so much as I am an antitheist; I not only maintain that all religions are versions of the same untruth, but I hold that the influence of churches, and the effect of religious belief is positively harmful. Reviewing the false claims of religion, I do not wish, as some sentimental materialists affect to wish, that they were true. I do not envy believers their faith. I am relieved to think that the whole story is a sinister fairy tale; life would be miserable if what the faithful affirmed was actually the case.

i'm a roman catholic.
most others of my religion (not all)
are cocky.
i believe simply
honor God,
love others (where they're at)
and above all else.
DO NOT JUDGE.
jesus preached "he who is whithout sin, cast the first stone"
thats why i think it's wrong to protest against gays,
or any other "christian" protesting.
these people have no right telling others how to live their lives.
they aren't even slightly qualified to judge anyone else when their skeletons they have in their closets are even bigger then the people they're accusing!
