It depends on where I am. When I work in the main city of my county then I feel a lot of negative vibes. As soon as I head out to the suburbs the attitude changes drastically, and it becomes fun to work with the public.

At different times I have worked as a city police officer, a department of public safety investigator, a town constable and a special deputy sheriff.
I never experienced any different treatment in law enforcement than I did as a private citizen.
Of course, a law enforcement officer in uniform is generally more in the public eye than an investigator but over the years I've had occupations that put me very much in the public eye so I can look at it from both perspectives.
I would say that a person pretty much gets the respect that he or she deserves.
Sometimes someone in any line of work might get unjustly maligned, but not all that often.

Police men and women are important to me, too. As a whole the general public treats me with respect.
