Did you know that you can click on your icon to view your profile? Yeah, you did that at one point to set things up, didn't you?

It would be nice if you would click on "Edit My Info" and put from one to 20 lines about yourself, what you do, what you use (if you are into that), some favorite sites, etc. I think you are limited to 1,000 characters.

You'll note, for instance, that I mention my career (not photography) and some of my background in photography.

It seems nice to me that I can click on a member's icon and learn a bit about their background, experience, credentials, business, etc. Who knows, pros? Maybe you would even get a call for some work out of it. Click on fhotoace's face and see how he handled this as a good example.

And you pros might want to provide some contact information or a location. No, you might not want to put a home address on the internet, but maybe your city or state. Maybe a business phone number. I don't know about that... Community Guidelines say, "Post content for advertising or commercial purposes," but it seems like that would apply to questions and answers. I'll go ask this in the Yahoo! Section and get back to you.

Ara57, I think most dentists have an artistic side. After all, it's what we do all day, isn't it? It's just that MOST of what we do will never be seen by anyone else!

Hey Terisu, I've been trying to finda way to tell you that I noticed your new photo a few months ago and think it's pretty cool.

ALL - Maybe you can add a link to your on-line photos? fhotoace did this long ago..... although a direct link would be helpful.

Here's the official word from Yahoo!
~~~~~~~
In general, users are allowed to add personal details such as an address or phone number to their profiles. However, if they use it as a way to solicit other members (answers such as "I'll do the assignment for you. My conact info is in my profile.") or if we find the information put up is someone else's posted for malicious purposes, then in those two cases it wouldn't be allowed.
Until now, I was satisfied with my rather clever quote from the movie "V for Vendetta", but I like the direction you are going with this, so I added a little blurb about myself. I agree, it is nice to learn about people. I wish to expand my network of personal and professional aquaintances and what better way to build possible connections than having the ability to know a little something about all of these people, seemingly providing some of the best answers ever, anonymously. Good on you, Dr. Sam!
Well, I posted a bunch of info about me, so people would know where I'm coming from in my answers if they wanted to. Then someone emailed me and asked why I posted my "life story". I reminded him that I posted what I'm comfortable with sharing, and what business was it of his anyway. Hey, I'm used to telling my kids what they can and can't post about themselves, and I'm grown up enough not to worry that much about my info anyway. I just think it's a nice way to share and make this more of a community.
By the way, Dr Sam, I did read your profile. The camera you mentioned starting out on--I have one of those up on a shelf. Used to be one of my Grandpa's. Nice old camera.
Great idea, Dr Sam! I have some limited info on my profile. I just visited your profile. Here is something I've noticed: Many dentists seem to be photography hobbyists. I know of several myself, and three who are avid underwater photographers. Of course, the dentist in "Finding Nemo" did underwater photography too. Is this a real trend, or do I just happen to know many dentist photographers?
Anyway, great idea for a thread. Hope to meet many of you in more detail!
The idea is great. We then shall become more real than just a trace of someone out there in cyberspace. Will edit my profile when I am free of those trappings called the 'rat-race, aka. work', in other words in a day or two.
