Ohhhhh Canada. Boy Scouts????? Do they still have that creepy cult around. Yikes!!!! Isn't that just America's version of the Hitler Youth, except with goofy clothes and a pledge to be lifelong virgins. I'm taking a poll, who's the more evil of the following three.......a catholic priest, a boy scout leader or Attila the Hun? BTW, I think the French Foreign Legion is right on my brother, very cool.

The Legion are still a part of the French Military located in Corsica, French Morocco and French Guiana, as well as bases on the French mainland.

The Legion is part of the official French Military so it does come under NATO!! It is not some quasi-secret military force of mercenaries all members swear allegiance to the French Republic and when their service is over may become French citizens.

A knowledge of the French language will become a must as most of the training is in French, as is learning and reciting the history of the Legion and singing their songs.

For recruiting see the French Embassy.

Its a standard 5 year contract, training is tough, some even say brutal, desertion from the Legion if successful leaves you open to arrest if you ever set foot on French territory anywhere in the world, even as a passenger on a plane that transits via French airports.

Americans are not "flavor of the month" after one deserted last year and published a book of lies about his very short time in the Legion, he never completed basic training and all Americans are now given special attention.

Germans make up quite a large number of the Recruits, and trained members in fact so much so that German is the unofficial second language.
You might encounter the odd Brit but if you go in be prepared to not hear the English language for quite a while.

Ian M :The boy scouts were established WAY before the Nazi Party there guy so way to flame.

The French Foreign Legion is shady they are affiliated with France but not directly connected to them. They are not recognized in NATO so no Geneva convention and well all the French Soldiers i know don’t trust them.
