Okay, no need to worry with the sleeping issue. It is normal and all of my dogs have done this. Some on a daily basis.
The howling problem is probably due to the fact that you have given him food in the past from the table. FYI big no no! Just don't do it anymore. Just ignore him! Look away when he is misbehaving in a nondestructive way. Don't give him even eye contact. When the dog is howling and you get mad and do everything to make him stop he is getting attention. Good or bad he wants it. Take it away form him and don't give it to him till he behaves how you want him to but then be sure to tell him good boy and get excited that he did the correct action. If he continues to howl and it is making you crazy or if he is being destructive I would suggest putting him in a crate in a common area of the house to teach him that it is unacceptable. Good luck

u shud always b kind 2 him and give him food 2 times a day. He must b makin the sound coz pets also hav feelings like us. when we also sleep we also sometimes make noises coz u do it in ur dream. And if u dont give him food at the right time then dogs howl to say that they feel hungry so u should always take care of him then soon he'll not b makin these tantrums. Hope this helps Jack.

No worries on the twitches, they are dreaming. Quite common, all my dogs have this experiences in their deep sleep. They even make noise frequently...so do no worries there.
As for his bad manners, u have to start disciplining him. Punish him whenever he does something u do not wish he continues, e.g. howls, destroy furniture. Gota be consistent to ensure it works. Also, be patient and robe in your family members to co-operate in the training. There is no point for you to be punishing him while the rest of the family do not bother or even encourage it. e.g. give in to his howls or nonsense by feeding him to stop it. So make sure there is a consistent protocol for all to follow in the family, it's the fastest way to untrain some ill manners.

His twitching, and whining, while asleep, is him dreaming, love. Its perfectly normal. Nothing to freak out about. We all dream, right? =]. Jack is fine. Don't worry. As far as the food thing goes, he's just jealous, animals share feelings just like us humans do. He'll eventually grow out of it, if he doesn't just give him some, when ever there are extras. =]. A little bit of human food, to dogs, isn't bad.

My puppy does the whole twitching thing too. But I asked my vet about it when I was getting his pills (believe it or not) he said that
he was cold and the position he was in was too uncomfortable so he twitches and then moves to make himself more comfortable. I hope this helps!

He is just dreaming, nothing to worry about. For the begging, I would crate him, lock him in another room or put him outside until the family is finished eating. With my dogs all I have to do is tell them no begging and they leave the room.
