Hi Carla

Best thing to do is contact your local Gym and see what classes they do there. What i can tell you for sure is that if you live in the UK you can't just start teaching. Unfortunately due to legal reasons classes such as taebo, X attack, Body combat etc are all governed by a British governing body who set the routines and even specify the music. Every 6 months or so they jiggle them around to vary the exercises.

So best to contact your local Gym and seek professional advice from someone who is registered.

Most martial artists don't really approve of taebo as they think of it as stripping away all the real stuff and selling out to the masses.

Personally i think its OK as long as its advertised as a fitness class and not Martial Arts.

Best wishes

If you want to become a Tae Bo instructor, I'd start by taking up Tae Bo classes yourself. If you already did that and feel confident in strating teaching, I'd go ant rent a sportshal from a school. They are usualy available at a reasonable price and you don't have to rent them permanently.

Then just start with a few friends, and advertise to get more people in your group. If new people come to watch and they see an empty room, they'll never start, so make sure there's at least 5 of your friends in the group to start with.

I would suggest talking to your local parks and recreation department or YMCA and perhaps they have some floor time open and would like to add something like this to their fitness programs. Sometimes martial arts studios will also have programs like this during the day so that the space they are renting or paying for is maximized so I would certainly talk to a few of them as well. It generally does not work well in the evening as the music usually is a distraction for younger, lower ranking students but can be a nice way for a school owner to better utilize their space during non-peak hours of operation. Besides the obvious income for him as well as you it also gets more people involved and can also give his school more exposure.

ask this question in the diet and fitness section, it has nothing to do with martial arts.

HOWEVER- are you set on "tae bo" as that is just a clever marketing scheme desinged by billy blanks to re-package an idea/concept that has been around for years before him.

most gyms had them they were just usually called (and still are) something like: "cardio kickboxing" or "executive boxing" or something like that.

go to your nearest fitness club and ask thier requriements to teach such a class.

Hi Carla, where are you based? I've been looking for tae-bo classes for a while but they don't seem to be very popular.. Have you tried contacting leisure centres?
