Do you confess to "wipe the slate clean" so to speak, so that you can sleep at night? Does it make it ok to sin if you confess afterwards?

No, it doesn't make it ok. You don't just sin and confess, only to do it all again just so you can confess and keep repeating.

You ask for help to NOT do it anymore.

I confess to wipe the slate clean and to ask for help to do better.

I don't confess anything because I don't break the law. As far as spiritual confessing, I don't do that either. If I think I have done something really wrong I try to atone for it. The slate is never clean and I sleep just fine at night.

As far as God is concerned , a believer's SIN and sins are all forgiven and forgotten-washed in the Blood of Jesus.

When believer's confessed their sins it's to maintained a clean conscience. Telling God sorry is not for God but for ourselves so that we can approached God without condemnation and satan's cannot accused us into depression.

Confessing a sin is restoring a relationship. The Christian idea is that the relationship with God is the all important thing.

I confess to purge my soul and spirit. If you sin afterwards then you can always confess again. Confessing helps me to say something out if I can't keep it in.

when one sin, the conscience pricks that is why they have a feeling that they have done wrong. when they are ready to rectify or want to get rid of the situation which made that person to sin then they will avoid. Many people may be in the bondage to do sin. They may want to get out of that situation, but they could not do by themselves ( need to pray to get out of that situation)
If they confess to God, He is ready to forgive them and if they want not to enter in to that situation, they have to pray to God for it. there may be some punishment depends upon the sin.

If you eat some uncooked food or contaminated food, you will get some stomach problem. Likewise, depends upon the sin you will have some trouble that one has to have that. If anybody who not obey the warnings of AIDS will definitely get AIDS.

You have to confess your sins to a priest to participate in the eucharist. Your sins get cleansed, and it's not ok to sin afterwards, what would be the point? Once you go to confession you have to try not to sin again.

Confessing our sins to God is our admission that we are not perfect, and that we are truly sorry that we have offended our loving Creator by sinning. No, it doesn't mean that it's OK to sin.

no it does not make it OK to sin on purpose that would let God know you really do not love Him
We confess because we are called to by God I do not think anyone really wants to air their sin but God is the only one that matters it keeps us humble before one another to know that all sin and fall short

No one said I have to confess my sins.
Who would I confess too?
I know my sins.
I forgive people that hurt me...
I repent of harms I've done others...
There's nothing to confess.
