Lyric, is verse, as different from prose; it is like poem, but more on loose lines as far as rules of the game are concerned! The songs you hear composed for emanating from the lips of characters in films, are lyrics: bhajans you hear in your prayer times, are lyrics! Poems can take the form of lyrics, and be recited as music! "When you get bored, and find that things you have to do, are taxing, too challenging, remember that life is a lyric, you need to adapt life's themes as music and live on, instead of giving the label of prosaic monotony and plainness to the various tasks associated with life!" This is the essence of what many famous lyricists have said in various times, in various forms, some of those greats being urdu poets whose lyrics are immortalised by gazal singers, sanskrit pundits, whose lyrics are bhajans ever-green, and filmi lyricists, many of them known to you!(Think of the Indian films in various languages, in different regions, familiar to you, you will know the names!)
