I was on a courese a few years ago and the tutor told me that the post office has no right to refuse to accept payment for road tax even if you dont have your insurance or mot.
this is because the post office acts as an agent to hm the queen and any agent that refuses to accept a tax levy will allow that person to use the vehicle on the road without the tax
is this true?

Not true, I'm afraid.
Post Office Limited, which provides government, financial and retail services through its network of some 14,400 Post Offices is one of the operating units of Royal Mail Holdings plc.
The government owns 100% of the shares in Royal Mail Holdings plc. The Secretary of State for Trade and Industry owns 50,000 ordinary shares and one special share. The Treasury Solicitor holds one share.
So the Post Office is not an agent of the Crown, but of the government.

Huh, tutors--wadda they know :/ Some of the answers you got back are interesting--for instance, i was always led to believe that NO-ONE...but NO-ONE can stop the royal mail transport, (bycycles--cars--vans--lorries and trains), in their line of duty for anything--not even the police? (it goes back to when we had kings--something to do with laws and treachery?) Having looked at your answers, one could then assume from them that, as the mail is owned by the government, this would not apply anymore...not that i would be so foolish as to stop the royal mail you understand! However--the answerers to your particular post were quite right, that much i DO know!

Most Teachers took "media studies" and/or left-wing politics when they were at Uni ..

... those that took Law (and passed) would never lower themselves to teaching anybody anything for less than £1,000 a day ..

.. so it's highly unlikely your Tutor any idea of what they are talking about :-)

nobody will issue road tax without an MOT & insurance..so i think your tutor could be wrong..why would an unsafe car be allowed on the road?? & without an MOT the insurance would be invalid also...even applying on-line..they still check your insurance & MOT.
