Why is bradycadia a warning of brain edema after head trauma?
Also, what is blood congestion?

Brain edema is harmful in the brain making no room for it to expand, resulting in increased intracranial pressure and corresponding decrease in cerebral perfusion. That will result to compromised blood flow and oxygen delivery that highly affects the cardiac functions. Actually tachycardia comes first and the bradycardia comes as a late sign.

Blood congestion is the pooling of the blood around a certain area or a particular part of the body. Some of the causes include poor circulation,or bleeding caused by injuries.

The relatively slow action of blood circulating throughout the body is a good indication that there is blood pooling going on somewhere in the body and if there has been an indication of head trauma then there is a good chance of brain edema occuring. Blood congestion is the pooling or gathering of blood in a particular area.

Cushing's triad suggests uncal herniation and the risk of a full-blown central herniation, with complete loss of even the basic brainstem functions to follow. I know quite a few people who seem to use their higher brain functions sparingly, but the basic functions are necessary for life.

maybe because of parasympathetic stimulation, blood congestion means blood stasis somewhere it should not happen normally, for example if you have your blood vessles congested in your nose you will have nose block...the same thing can happen anywhere else in your body.
