From what I understand of Deism, there is a God who created and looks over the universe, but after the initial act of creation has more or less sat back and let his creation run its own course without interference.

Jews and Christians believe that God takes an active role in history and in the lives of his followers.

They both believe in the same God, but have different ideas on what his role in our lives is.

A deist would follow an "absent god" theory: he created the universe and then jumped ship. Deism holds reason above faith and (as a result) does not believe in revelation.

This really doesn't fit well with a Judeo-Christian religion, which has revelation/faith elements.

No, the Judea-Christian God is a Theist God. He is someone who created existence, watches over it, and has the power to effect it. A Deist God is one who created the world or the universe, then stepped back to let things happen as they may, never interfering with the beings of "his" creation.

Many Deists do believe or portray them to be the same God. The diest god looks just as powerful and just as loving and peaceful. However, the diest god is an impostor to the real God and Creator of all. The real God goes by many names. In the old testament, He's often referred to as Jehovah. In the new testament, His name is Jesus the Christ. On the flip side, the diest god might be considered as the big guy in the sky. One thing to remember is that Satan tries to deceive many by imitating the real God, and he's real good at fooling people.
