I have told my dad for the 1st time over the telephone for the 1st time that he is my boyfriend. I didn't want to lie to my dad that i was with a friend because i figured it is not good for my boyfriend & also i don't lie to my dad over such things.
I don't know how my boyfriend felt but i sense that he was very happy. He even told me to send his regards to my dad while i was chatting with him. My dad lives in the other end of the state.
So guys, how do you feel in this situation? Happy? Surprised? Honored?
I might be wrong but is this also a male thing for you - to be accepted by the father of your girlfriend?
Any insights are welcome!

I think he may feel like he is more officially your boyfriend now instead of just someone you're seeing. Telling your dad that the guy you're seeing is your boyfriend makes the guy feel like he's important to you.
(In your question, you said that you told your dad he's your boyfriend, which is why someone responded with an incest comment. You failed to define the "he" in that sentence.)
Anyway, it's not always a huge deal, but if your boyfriend knows that your dad and your dad's opinion are important to you, then you just gave your boyfriend a big stamp of approval by telling your dad about him.

I would feel honored and happy. People say it doesn't really matter what your parents think, only what you two feel. This is true to a point, but if your parents aren't happy about it, then they can make the situation difficult. You always want your parents to be happy with your choices. Of course, I am also pretty old-fashioned, and think that one of the first things a guy should do in a relationship is ask for permission/blessings from the father.

Probably one of the greatest influence is your parents. For a guy, the best compliment and validation is to be accepted by the parents.
It relieves the question of whether or not you have to "compete" or "work together". Validation allows you to reach the same goal - the best for YOU.
The best first step was honesty, which shows honor.
There are exceptions to everything, but being liked, appreciated, and accepted by my in-laws was a huge step towards a happy, and supportive future with my wife.

It is very important for the father of the girl we are with to accept us as a possible future mate to their daughter and father to their future grandchildren.
Most guys are honored and happy when they are accepted by the father or at least acknowledged by the girl, to her father, that they are a mate.
Its a big step, in most guy's eyes.

I would be happy, surprised and honored if the father of my girlfriend accepts me for me. Because you never know--I may ask him for her hand someday. A pure love is without shame.
I'm happy for you, and I think your boyfriend is too. Good luck.

When a girl friend I am flipped for starts going public that she accepts me as her BF I am overjoyed. For me it is unimportant whom she is telling. It is a testimony to her caring for and about me. If I care for her, then of course I want to hear her tell others that she cares for me.

well that is just great for you. My gf won't tell her parents that she is going out with me and that kind of pisses me off. I keep getting her to try and tell her parents but it is not working
