I am looking for a verse or verses that talk about how god puts obstacles and problems in your life to test your faith in him. I know there are probably alot but as many different ones as possible would be appreciated. I recently went through a time of great doubt in my faith because of things that had happened in my life. I have come to realize that these things are part of testing my faith and I would like to find a verse to describe that.

I know the stories but does anyone know any specific verses that kind of sum up the idea of your faith being tested?

God does not test our faith in the narrow-minded sense, because God knows our faith or the lack of it. What He does is He permits we go through hardships or problems - justly or unjustly - in the same way the Bible describes that the silvermith puts the silver through fire to purify it from impurities and other substances. I am sorry I cannot remember where this passage in the Bible is.

"Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope." -Romans 5:3-4

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." -James 1:2-4

"In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls." -1 Peter 1:6-9

I'm no good with the actual verses, but the story that sticks out to me is the story of Abrahm, how God asked him to sacrifice his only son if he was faithful to God, and just as Abrahm was about to kill his son, God intervened and stopped the sacrifice. Then he rewarded Abrahm (I think he made him the father of the Israelis but I'm not sure... maybe I'm confusing him with another important bible guy).

James 1:13
"Let no man say when he is tempted, 'I am tempted of God': for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man".
Vs.14
" But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed".

God does not tempt us nor does he put obstacles and problems in our life. Obstacles and problems are a part of life and He helps us thru them. We can grow stronger from them but only if we rely on God to help us thru them.

Deaths Toy pretty well nailed it. But get ready for a long sit, since Job is 42 Chapters long, and it's all in prose that repeats itself in triplicate.
