I know Marines deserve alot of respect but why do most INFANTRY Marines think they're better than INFANTRY soldiers?

Yeah they're alot of screw ups in the army but there are ALOT of hardcore soldiers too who just didn't want to join the Marines. Also, after looking at Marine forums there seems to be as much screw ups in the Marines as there are in the army.

My grandfather served in the Army as an infantry man in the Phillipines. He is by far one of the best men I've ever known. Just because he was in the army infantry does that mean he's not as strong (physically and mentally) as a Marine?

Matter of fact, during his tour he was doing exactly what the Marines where doing. He did an amphibious landing underfire, and was on the front line doing recon missions most of his time there, much like the Marines.

I'm not bashing Marines. Everybody in the military, expecially combat arms MOS's deserve alot of respect. Hopefully I'll be able to follow their foots steps once I get older

You know what else pisses me off? Why is it that people who have no experience in the military assume that the Marines are better as well?

And what about Paratroopers? Their training is just as hard as a Marine's.

They also do the same job pretty much. Both fight on the front lines to make room for the rest of the army. The paratroopers just jump out of planes instead of boats :) .

Thanks to whoever answered my question but...

Barrett J- why do you have to act like a d*ck? I'm asking a god damn question. I've got a uncle who's a Marine and served in vietnam so I know about all his experiences about training and deployment. I'm just saying that just because he's a Marine that doesn't make him any better than my Grandfather. (My grandfather even got the medal of valor for saving his squadmates in battle. Just because some guys a Marine does that make him better then my grandfather?)

Well its because the Marines have less men and are distinquished for it. Normal infantry its just "The army did that" because they have no realy recognition and there are alot more of them.

I respect anybody who joins the military, soldier, marine, sailor, and airman. But I too have asked myself why do the Marines portrait them self as a more elite unit. I will give them this. The Marines have a better boot camp that the Army does. Because the Army needs every single soldier that goes to boot camp so they can fill in ranks because the Army is allot bigger, hence why they need more people. That’s why the Army isn’t as tough on physical requirements because not everybody that goes to the Army is going to try to score a perfect 300 on there Physical Fitness Test… They have MOSs that have to be filled up. But that’s just boot camp. Once you go to more combat training and school the physical requirements are going to be a lot higher. Even higher than the requirements of the Marines. The Marines can say that there boot camp is all lot harder, which it is but that’s as far as it goes. After that, the Marines ask the other branches to train there marines. If I had to choose between getting screamed at all day or getting trained all day. Well I would like to get trained as much as I could.

Thank your family member that served in the military for me.

Now how about someone that has been in BOTH the army and the Marines answer. And just because you've seen "Full Metal Jacket" 17 times, does not make you an expert on Marines.

Boot Camp is longer and harder. Military Occupation Schools are usually harder. A higher ASVAB is required to join the Marines.

In the Marines you don't take a test to get promoted. You get promoted based on your performance.

Fitness standards are much higher, shooting skills required are much higher.

And guess what, the Marines aren't looking for people that want a 30,000 sign on bonus, and a trazillion dollars for school. They want people that want to be Marines, therefore getting people that are more committed to the "fight". And not just in it for the benefits.

Why are the Marines the smallest force?? Because we can do more with less. And not everyone can be a Marine, that's why were Marines.

And don't you suppose there is a reason the Marines get yelled at so much, and have to PT so much??

"The more you sweat here, the less you bleed out there".

And not to be a d*ck, but Marines ARE better. If you don't think so, get some guts and go talk to a recruiter, and give it a shot, you might even like it.

Everyone deserves respect in the military. It's like any other profession, some think they're better than others, some have zero work ethic and some take their job seriously. I've been told that the Marines are supposed to be the "toughest", that their training weeds out the weak ones better than any other branch. There are a lot of idiots in the military, but there are a lot of excellent people too. Regardless of branch or MOS, everything and everyone has an important place. Don't let anyone tell you they are better than you, make them prove it.

Truthfully, because Marine Boot is harder than Army Boot.

But that is meaningless in real life.

Because we don't send soldiers or marines to fight right out of boot.

The training for deployment for marines is no harder than the training the army does.

A marine company trains no more often or harder than a army company does now.

That might have held true during peace time, but no longer.

Since all military units are in constant training after they get back from a deployment, untill thier next deployment.

The Marines are small and can afford to be selective. Their training is recognized as tougher then that of the regular army. Much of their reputation comes from their doctrine of attack, ie, the Corps in general is more aggressive then the Army. When comparing elite troops, one has to compare only to elite troops. Paras, Rangers (many ARE paras), SEALS, etc have to be compared to the Marine Recon troops who are at least their equal. Am I a Marine? Heck no! My loyalties are with the Air Force but I had often supported Special Forces (only US Army, though) from the field.

final analysis is this as a militia vet I had the prospect to artwork with marines, sailors, and airmen. None are any further harder than the different branch. plenty has to do with the place you're from, bacause believe me you will no longer discover an infantryman everywhere that believe he's way less harder than a marine. we are all brothers in hands. In a barfight marines, infantrymen, airmen, and sailors will combat one yet another, call one yet another names, and the rest. yet permit somebody else attack a member of the defense force and believe me you will ought to combat us all. As a grunt at feet. Hood 2/7 Cav we fought with the Armor and Artillery instruments and we've been all military. so which you will in no way come across a member of any of the defense force that doesn't think of his branch is larger than the others. it particularly is a controversy of delight.

Marines are knowin as being the first ones in in a lot of circumstances and marine standards of marksmanship and training are higher. But in ww11 army rangers and pathfinders were the first in on the beach and paratroopers were ahead of everyone, marines got a lot of recognition from the pacific war where they dominated the numbers but in europe the most dangerous parts of the battles were fought by army, especailly sherman tank drivers.

It all depends on the individual. There are tough marines and tough Soldiers. There are losers in both branches. We are all fighting the same fight. I think people who don't know hear the marines talk and buy into it. It does seem like they have more pride.

Marines just have a different kind of mentality. And to follow up, Marines ARE NOT soldiers, they are marines. The navy are seamen/women, air force are airmen, army is soldiers, marines are marines.
