It used to bother me a lot. There were times I felt like slapping the face of the noise maker. But living life, and learning that not everyone is capable of quieting their processes has taught me how demanding my perfectionist nature was on others. I learned that I was being unkind to others on that subject (actually, quite few subjects.) So I took the attitude that I should be hard on myself and easy on others. That has proved an important development in my character.
Over time, I learned that I felt the most annoyed by others' behavior of any kind when I was stressed. I learned to "unhook" myself from the feelings, allowing them to float away as if they were in a balloon. It's very freeing. If I find myself having the feelings again, I just work with myself to let them go -and of course, deal with what is stressing me to that level.

Hello WOW I have the EXACT same issue and it is always bothering me...while I'm sleeping next to my honey even! It's been an issue since I was a kid..Dinner was a nightmare,,I feel like a raging BEEOTCH . I have even tried having someone swallow while I closely listened but I could not see how it was working. I have heard that you should record these sounds and listen to them over and over trying to meditate through them. This is also known as a rare disorder called misophonia. I have also taught myself how to silently swallow and I get irritated when the next person has not figured out how to as well!! I just can't stand the noise when people put their mouth of a glass ..slurp and gulp like they have never drinkenb a glass of water in their entire life1 Bodily noises truly are gross to me. Yes even the sound of salivs is gross. Also I cannot stand abrupt loud noises in the kitchen..clammering of dishes etc. People who suck on their food while they chew..or sliding of teeth on a utensil. Its hard because if you mention these things to people, they feel like they have to walk on egg shells around you. Its just no fun either way. I try to just smile at the person, and do the opposite of what my original reaction would be..punching them in the face :) Any luck on trying to overcome this? I fear i am destined to live alone in a shut away cabin in the woods..if anyone wants to be with me. I Come with a disclaimer! They can always live in the cabin next to me..where I chose to hear them swallow when I WANT. Oh the agony of being a hypersensitive NUT. Hey ..there are some things you can change about yourself,,and somethings you just can't. I try to make a joke out of it. HYPNOSIS?? best of wishes

People eating and chewing and talking at the same time I find gross. It's just poor etiquette. I can't say I've heard the swallowing that much. But I'm not listening for it like you have gotten into the habit of doing. Try not to listen to the swallowing. I know; easier said than done. Oh well. Such is life. You take the good with the bad. That's all of the cliches I can come up with right now. lol If that's your biggest problem, you're doing great!! :D

I just asked this question on this site....wow, so many others can't stand the noise either.
I can take it a step further....not only CHEWING, but the clicking on utensils hitting the plate from
which they are eating, OR wrappers of the food.....click, click, click...chomp, chomp, chomp...OMG
I want to go across the room right now and knock the person in the head....crap!

I'm the same, I have to leave the room sometimes. Which I can't when I'm at work really but it does interrupt my work because it bothers me so much.
It makes me feel like scratching my eyes out when I hear it as it generates a large amount of anxiety for me.

Heck no you dont have a problem some people have no class and I work in the restaurant business and one of the most rude, classless things I see some people do is blow their nose and burp or even hear some jerks pass gas and then they laugh.Just very rude and you are very much in the right.

Two thing annoy me about eating habits, the first is slurping soup and the second is sucking an empty glass with a straw, geez, get a refill, don`t try to suck up the last drop of liquid in the bottom of the glass, very annoying noise.

Yes.I'd like to punch them in the mouth so there lips swell up so they can be a noise blocker.I really hate people that smack when they eat.

I agree, it's pretty gross.
Some sounds can't be helped, but people who sit next to you on the train or wherever and make wet chewing noises should have a bucket of spit dumped on their head.
