Blue painters tape rolled onto itself with the sticky side out will hold them for the day and peel off the wall cleanly.

Get some blue painters tape. It will hold well and will not peel the paint. If you don't want to see blue tape with your decorations you could tie the balloons together on a long string, like a chain of balloons, and use the 3M Command adhesive hooks to hang the chain around the room near the ceiling. The command adhesive comes off cleanly without damage when you follow the package directions. You can re-use them and you can purchase more adhesive strips as needed. They are not cheap but not too expensive if you find them on sale. They are so handy and can hold a fair amount of weight. I use them to hang towels and robes in the bathroom. Holds even in that moist environment. I use them in lots of other places too.

There is a blue-colored sticky gum that is made to attach paperwork to an office wall. You pull off a bit of it and squish it to be soft and then use it to stick balloons on the wall. It does not ruin the paint.

Look in a stationary store or craft store. I think it is called Blue Tack

i think glue would mess the wall up.

i would try a good double sided tape and remove carefully to not take off the paint.

you should be able to buy some poster putty from any hardware store or discount center. Not sure of the name but most of the time it is blue in color and wll not harm your walls. Be sure not to get it in your carpet it sticks like gum. It is also reusable.
