Where the cop won't see it.

Interview with police officer say that they will let some people off for speeding; if they stop fast enough, don't have any want or warrants out on them, and if they were at least 10 mph under the speed limit. However, if they see a radar detector then the don't feel so nice, the fact that they have the radar detector is proof that the person intends to speed, so the officer feels that the ticket his is giving them now makes up for the 10 times they got out of a ticket because of that radar detector.

With that in mind mounting it on your dashboard is asking for trouble. If you can clip it to the windshield visor and find a way to hide the cord then you will have the best chance of escaping a ticket. Of course unless you mount it on the dashboard the detector won't detect laser guns, which many cops are using. So if it is a laser/radar detector then to get full performance you have to mount it to the dashboard.

Better yet, disassemble it and mount it behind the grill, then lead wires to your dashboard and mount it somewhere below the stereo. Then the detector will work as designed and you won't get seen having one. That is the single best place to put your radar detector.

Not all police cars have radar and even if they do it has to be turned on to set off your device. Don't use that thing as a substitution for safe driving. Police can pull you over for speeding without radar and still cite you. If there are no radar waves there can be no radar wave detection.
