How do you know if you have a good singing voice?

see, i dont know how good my voice is?
my mom says i should go and get voice lessons, and a few of my friends complement it, but does that mean it is good? Help!

Trust your mom. The woman has wisdom! She wouldn't tell you this if you had no promise and wasn't willing to financially help you improve your goal as a singer.

You may very well have a beautiful instrument, but you just can't tell because it hasn't been trained. A good voice teacher will look beyond bad technique, and has an ear to a good instrument. So sometimes, even if a person "thinks" you can't sing, you may prove them wrong with lessons. Allow a professional to help you bring out the singing voice, and then you will know how good it is. You will be amazed at how incredible you will sound after a professional gets a hold to your raw instrument. You will probably find you indeed have a good singing voice! GO FOR IT AND SING!!!!

Do breathing excercises first, before you sing. Basically, 1st step: lift both hands in the air(like u juss don't care, kiddin').
Step 2: breathe(inhale) when you have both hands up
Step 3: As you place hands down, you breathe out(exhale) @ the same x. Practice on the "Do Re Mi's" and see how high your vocal cords can take you. If you really want to sing, practice and perfect your voice, don't strain it by shouting, yelling,(u get the pic.) and practice holding your diaphragm as you sing and that way you can actually hold a note longer(especially, if you're not a smoker, 'kay? good luck to your aspiring career.... you can make your dream come true if you're truly determined.

A good singing voice needs to tbe assessed by a voice instructor.
