I took a poll here to see how many Christians loved an unproven, unseen, unheard, untouched, unanything "god" more then their OWN kids. Remarkably..... almost ALL the Christian answers said they loved god more then their very own kids.

Is it disturbing that these people love something that may not even be there at all more then their own flesh..... and their own blood? Why do you think people of such complexity to turn on a computer are as ignorant to love an unproven, unseen god more then their own children??

Note this question is aimed at Atheists and/or agnostics who seem to be a little more rational. I dont want to hear your copy/pasted god spit ups from your little book. I want SINCERE answers and comments from rational thinking people.... thanks...

Whats ironic is that I was actually thinking about this today on my way to work. I once heard someone say "God comes first, then your family and then yourself." I honestly cant wrap my mind around it. You said it as I was thinking it, why would they love or how could they love something unproven, unseen, unheard, untouched, unanything more than their own flesh and blood?

We may never understand such insane ideas.

I am christian however I don't love god more then my children. I think that maybe the reason some do is because they are scared that won't make it to heaven. I don't know the bible word for word but I think somewhere lost in translation peole read into it that god says you must love him over all. You must remember that the king james version isn't just written by prophets, but also by pageans (sp). I learned that when all these shows were talking about the devinci code. it was on date line, primetime etc. though all the info in the bible is true some of it was translated by pagens (sp)

This is the best answer I can give you.

I am a Christian.. I'm not such a fan of religion. Being a Christian should be about a relationship with God and Jesus. Christians who understand that God sacrificed his own Son to save us from Hell if we accept his gift will understand how it is possible to Love an unseeing God. I cannot express how grateful and honored I am for God to love me so much that he does this for me (and everyone)
and yes.. in the Bible it says to put God ahead of everyone else in your life. Put God first, family second and you will be blessed.

Rational thinking people? That's subjective at best, and what is it that causes YOU to judge anyone or anything as rational? How would you perceive rationality? Who's to say that YOU have had the perfect input, training, education and up-bringing to clearly judge anything? Your point of view is nothing more than that... "YOUR" point of view - and not necessarily an educated one either?! But, who can judge you?
Your thoughts are a result of "YOUR" life's experiences only, and if you don't consciously question yourself, (and what you think you know), every waking moment, you're deceiving yourself as well as limiting your potential!

"Is it disturbing that these people love something that may not even be there at all more then their own flesh"

Because, when you get away from the corporate health-n-wealth gospel that passes for Christianity in most churches, you realize it really is a death cult. This world is nothing more than a vale of tears, punishment for some horrible sin some navel-less ancestors committed centuries ago, and getting to heaven is infinitely more important than having a decent earthly life.

No, it doesn't bother me. As much as I like to knock religion, this poll is a "wife beating" question.

They are not saying they don't love their children, they're only saying they love their god more. And in their minds, the two are not mutually exclusive.

I love my mom more than my dad, but that is not to say I wouldn't take a bullet to defend him.

So while I don't agree personally, I doubt that many love their children less because of their faith.

You're kidding, right? Most people don't have the ability to take out their eye unless it's a glass one. As for how clean your hands are, I think that should be of concern because germs can enter through the eyes or, in her case, eye sockets.

Those are the kind of answers that raise my eyebrows up so high, they're in orbit...(Pretty sad...once I asked a girl I know that if a Sophie's choice situation became a reality, and she could either save a kind stranger, or her beloved cat...she said she'd save the cat...(bing! my eyebrows went into orbit again...I would save the kind stranger over my cat any day of the week...!!! And I hope if ever I'm the kind stranger...the person making the choice will think like me...!!!)

After being around people for 43 years (lots and lots and lots of people), I've learned that when someone "says" they love something...

They probably don't...

Proclaiming my "love" for something or someone (with one exception..."I really love ya', honey...!)
seldom "needs" to be "said..."

I'm like Nikes...

I Just do it...(so from my "actions" you can tell I "love" something...no need to shout it from the rooftops at 11:00 am on any given Sunday)

And to tell you the truth...I, myself, probably love those people's kids more than they do...because it's a no brainer...Your kids get "highest" love value...

Go on...don't love them...(at your own peril...grown-ups that weren't loved when they were kids are the killers and thieves of today...!!!)

yes Christians are taught to put God above everything...whether it be your possessions, your family, or yourself. without Him we wouldnt even be here, meaning that we wouldnt have our children either. yes, its hard to have so much love for an unseen God, but isnt that the very definition of faith?

I hate religion. I hate how religion can change people. No good comes out of religion. All major wars were caused from religion. Religion was created for ancient people who were not scientifically advanced to understand why the sun rises every day. They thought the earth was flat, and that the sun revolved around the earth; they were idiots. And most of you are idiots now for believing such b.s. Its time for the human race to let go of religion so real advances can take place. I obviously don't believe in any religion. I believe in the morals that my family has ingrained in me. I used to be brainwashed. Now I feel free and like a normal human being. I don't know why people put themselves through self induced agony. It doesn't make sense. Religion doesn't make sense. This world doesn't make sense.
