No, you are not. I don't, however, believe that there is anything wrong with supporting a church. But, God loves a cheerful giver. And the whole tithing thing is part of the law of Moses and very legalistic.
I KNOW that many churches use the tithing law just to guilt members into making churches rich. And, for those churches and pastors who are doing those things, they have their reward already. Money.
As for me, I choose eternal life. And you can't buy that. It's a gift given by God and received by faith.
There are some "real" churches out there. But, in my own personal experience, we are living in the time when they are very, very hard to find. Peace.

Tithing was the OT method of supporting the Levitical priesthood since they were the only ones NOT required to learn a trade, but only to service the temple and God's people when necessary involving spiritual matters and use the tithe to but medicine, food and etc for themselves and the needy. Today, it serves a similar purpose. It is to serve in part the pastor's salary, keep the electricity and water on, support missions work and etc. If done with a pure heart and administered to in the PROPER manner, everyone in a given congregation from the pulpit to the pew will reap benefits from it for God promises that he would "...open up the windows of Heaven and pour out a blessing so great that we'd scarcely (barely be able to) receive it!"

Not that I am taking up for churches, but they do have a large expense. I am quite sure there is more than enough money to take care of it, and I myself being an ordained Minister of the St. Luke Ministries, will not accept money for doing God's work. However, I don't expect missionaries and fulltime pasters to work without compensation.
The thing about churches that few people understand, is that they are more like private clubs, christian clubs, but still they belong to the congregation. So the members of the church are quite informed as to the use of their money, and if they are happy, then so am I.
I don't believe Jesus would be very pleased with the way churches spend so much money on entertainment, and other luxuries, while Jesus is starving to death. I believe that every rich person, church, company, and state, is stealing from the poor. And when you steal from the poor, you are stealing from Jesus Christ Himself.
I don't really have anything against churches that I don't have against other people, companys, and states. I am saddened that the church is so misrepresented to the general public. It is as I have said, more of a private club, and the club members can do as they please, just as any other private club.
The main difference is, their doors are open to anyone, and that includes people who are in need. If you visit a church, you should not feel like you have to put money in the plate when it is passed, that is for members. You are a guest. If you for some reason wish to join, then you are expected to come off the bucks.
May God be with ,
William M. Butler, Evangelist of St. Luke Ministries

Do you go to Church? Do you tithe? If not, why does it bother you? Maybe some want to tithe. A person that does not tithe isn't kicked out of the Church. Most of the time, people don't know what the income is of other members and as such, they wouldn't know if they were tithing or not. Most Church's have envelopes to put in the collection plate and in that way, no one could even see what a person was giving. The Bible teaches of tithing and it's a good idea. But..tithing isn't a must. It doesn't say "tithe or **#^&*. It could be said that thithing is between you and God.

Its a Biblical principal...only 6% of people that attend church regularly tithe anyway..so it can't be that big of a scam since most 'Christians' don't do it anyway... I know that personally since I have started tithing my finances have increased, and I trust God to provide in all aspects in my life..the least I can do is give a measly 10% of what I get back into helping the church...it has worked for me and I think it is great plus it says in the Bible it is up to us to help keep our churches doors open..
I am just curious as to why people that do not believe in God, or people that do not go to church would even care what I do with my money...or what any of us do with it....Churches and the parishoners deserve to worship in a nice house as well..Sometimes churches outgrow their little buildings...Colleges have nice campuses that are built from people calling to ask alumni for money..the tuition wasn't enough??? I really think it is silly for anyone who does not attend a house of worship to even comment on this...I know I will get a ton of thumbs down but oh well..

NO a church is a place where belivers can come together to worship and praise God in my case cuz im a Christian in the Bible it sais that everything you have is provided by God and it says the give God back 10% of what he has given you not asking for much any thing you give him above that is an offering and in most cases thats how the church pays the bills so belivers can continue to come together and worship its your choice if you give to God what is already his but it is not a scam, im a teenager and when i get money i give my tithe on it and were teaching my neice to do the same so when shes older and has money she will give to God what is his

Although I am not one that donates much, The church does have to pay rent, pay utilities, pay for repairs for the church. Also some of my friends have needed financial help from the church. Some churches will help with donations of food, especially during the winter months, and in extreme cases, they will help with rent, or trying to find a homeless member a place to stay that requires a deposit. They also have to pay the minister/pastor so he can eat and pay his rent.
My brother goes to a church that - I kid you not - half the sermon, every time I go is for money. I go to a church, where they do not pass a plate to collect money, they have a discrete box that people can deposit into when they can, and although I have only been going for a few months, they have NEVER mentioned donating to the church. Someone I know that has gone to the church for a couple years said that the pastor did cover tidings in a sermon ONCE, but it is in the bible, and he eventually talks about every passage from the bible.
So although there are money hungry churches out there, there are also churches that don't dwell on the subject of money.

Tithes are for the unkeep of the Chruch and the Pastor. When a person tithes, he and the whole church profit from it. The Pastor doesn't have to worry about trying to pastor a church, and work a job, therefore his sermons are more prepared and well studied, and the tithes also (At least at our church) are used for adding on to the church such as a fellowship hall etc...

This has been going on since churches began... pay the church for ofrgivenes, indulgences, tithes, guilt trips.... some apparently order you to fork over your tax return so they can consider you in "good standing"
Yeah, I am sure that Deity goes over your tax returns and condemns you to whatever for not giving money you need to survive, or yeah...
a scam older than all of us.

Definitely a fatty scam. And how's this for pathetic: my mom's church has just raised over a couple MILLION in order to build a new church, complete with "decorative trees" and a couple entry-ways. As if God actually cares! The old church was just fine, but no. It has to bran-spankin-new and fancy for who? Just so the stupid ministers feel better about their time on earth?
