I play flute and my boyfriend plays piano, and we've talked about picking up some pieces to try together. My background is more ensemble, and he is used to individual recitals. We're both a little rusty, so something that's light and on the simple side would be best. Thank you!

24 Short Concert Pieces for Flute and Piano edited by Cavally and published by Southern Music.

It's a traditional entry to recital playing and isn't all that difficult to work up some really famous pieces to impress friends and family (and music teachers).

You can buy this online at FluteWorld.com and any number of other places. Sometimes it's on eBay pretty cheap.

Go to Yahoo Groups and join Flutenet. You will learn a LOT form all the great flutists who are members. Also, go to the website of the National Flute Association www.nfaonline.org. Right now, we are really into preparation fror our annual convention, but browse the publications - there is a small booklet with GRADED solos - so you can tell just where you are, what is the same level of difficulty, etc.

I agree with another poster - the 24 Short is one of the fundamental collections, and Flute World is the place to shop!

i've got constantly been partial to the Bach flute sonatas. He wrote 6 altogether. a number of them are very lyrical, on an analogous time as some others require some extraordinarily stiff breath administration, yet they're mind-blowing. you will discover some very playable products. some fo them are scored for keyboard, flute and viola de gamba. The viola de gamba section may be ignored (and commonly is in could recordings) with none adverse effect.

Have you looked at the music store? They usually have stuff like Billboard hits and stuff. It sounds kind of cheesy, but there's a piece I played once called Tutti Flutti. It's pretty simple and upbeat. I guess it depends on if you are playing just to play or are maybe preparing to perform somewhere.

If you like classical music, Mozart's "Andante" for flute with piano is great. It's also in C-Major, which makes it a bit simpler!
