hetero - the "male spores" - pollen cells are smaller than "female spores" egg cells.

homosporous plants (some primitive ferns) are more primitive -they have no visible difference between male and female sex cells whatsoever. heterosporous are more advanced, any specialization of female and male sex cells is an advantage (like the female is bigger - the egg) this gradually led to the development of angioperms, cryptosperms. and these all are heterosporous just as a matter of fact - big difference betweemn male and female sex cells. (although we as a rule dont refer to them as to spores, because we have better names for them

usuallly when we are asking whether a plant is homo or heterosporous it is when we have fern in mind because that is when the difference occurred - some are hetero, some are homosporous, while the heterosporous are more advanced - the female sex cell is just larger than male - more nutrients, while the male is more mobile. and that is the point

hope it helps.

Heterosporous like beer and watch sporous games on TV. Homosporous like to redecorate the zygotes. (Sorry I just couldn't resist.) Homosporous produce spores of the same size and type. While Heterosprous produce different sizes with one being female (the larger) and the other male.
