most people believe in it... but i want some good arguments both for it and against it. ive seen al gore's movie but have not really seen anything disproving it.
ps- the reason im asking is cuz my bro insists it is not real. thats bc the only stuff he reads is the ones that say its fake. so how legitimate is this info?
*please no insults. yes, he's a bigot, i know but he's also family.

yes i have heard about the cooling and heating cycles but i also think that human activity worsens it, too.
i called my brother a bigot since he refuses to watch an inconvenient truth or read anything that says global warming is caused by humans. he doesnt even know the arguments saying it is caused by man, and believes 100% thats everything is pretty much a normal environmental change.

He's not a bigot for questioning global warming.
I suppose the reason we had an ice age was because we didn't have ENOUGH greenhouse gases?
Even environmentalists can't decide if it's global warming, because when scientists figured out that we warm and cool on a regular basis, they had to change "global warming" to this "climate change" nonsense.
Keep believing the sky is falling if you want, but I wouldn't rely on the scientists that are receiving special funding for "exploring the possibility" versus the other scientists who point that there is no correlation.
Think for yourself. Don't take an opinion just because other people believe it to be true.

Hi,
I'm a local science teacher and someone that takes a keen interest in climate change issues. I hope I can help.
The recent UN report on climate change which involved over 2000 people and 600 internationally renowned scientists stated that '..we are 95% sure that climate change is due to human activity' However, the scientists originally wanted the statement to read '....climate change is beyond doubt down to human activities' It was changed to the former statement after strong lobbying by the United States and other such economic powers. 10 years ago society was still debating whether smoking cigarettes was harmful for health, yet it was known in scientific circles to be damaging to health from about 1930's. Unfortunately 'doubt' was cast and big business successfully managed to get people debating whether or not smoking was indeed damaging up until the mid 1990's - sounds ridiculous doesn't it! Nonetheless, the same thing has happened with climate change. Sorry to get political again but its crucial to the argument - the US republican administration is run by people that have big interests in the massively polluting oil industry (type 'bush administration and oil connections' into Google!) and thus have an interest in casting doubt on climate change. Although the weeds of doubt have been successfully sown amongst the general public, the worldwide scientific community is not debating the causes of climate change. For more info visit the UN website on climate change http://www.ipcc.ch/
Hope this helps
Kind Regards
Jason
Ps. Sorry for the essay, I could have gone on........

I do not believe in Global Warming... there have always been hot times, there have always been floods... far worse than what we having now right through history and way back before there were any cars...
Polar Ice-caps have always melted... it's natural like the falling of leaves during the autumn... the media presents people with lots of shocking images but forget to mention that this is actually nature... nothing to do with humans at all!
I agree it's probably a good idea to try and take care of the environment but it annoys me when people state global warming as a fact when there is infact a lot of evidence to the contrary..
I believed in Global warming two until I saw a programme a few months back... I went into the programme expecting to either laugh or get really annoyed by the scientists who denied it, but they were actually very convincing...
In this programme, they pointed out that Global Warming was first suggested because people back in the 70s or whatever were scared of a global cooling effect... one scientist suggested that there was actually more of a chance of the earth heating up, than cooling down...
The idea caught on in England because of the miners strikes... Margaret Thatcher put a lot of money and effort into trying to prove it's a real phenomena so we wouldn't have to rely on coal... unfortunately there never was any evidence, yet people still quote it as fact...
People say that 'most scientists say it's real' when this is actually not the case... people are quoted by the government agency as backing global warming but these people have actually spoken out and said that their evidence DISproved global warming, yet they were still named as backing it...
Government agencies generally back global warming as it's a good scare tactic to get people spending money on alternatives to electricity.. When I actually see proof of global warming, then I will believe it... in the meantime I will keep getting irritated at people who quote it as truth

The BBC and CBC just did 6-hour documentaries a few months ago on this, showing that the planet has already changed badly.
Those of us who remember Ontario, Canada with snowy winters in the 1970's know that climate has changed. Almost no snow at all in Toronto.
If you're also asking for solutons, here's a VERY BIG SOLUTION:

False. I believe global warming was something that was made up just to get us americans all riled up. If you look at tempurtures and weather from years ago there has been excessive heat and cold during different times of the year. I think its just a way to push a theory that hasnt even been proven. Maybe it isnt. Who knows. But I think of things even more important than this. Like Terrorism and so on. That is very much more a threat and has more odds than anything else in the next, 10,20,30,40,50 years if nothing is done!

I'm sorry to break it to you all, but Terrorism isn't nearly as important to deal with as Global Warming. Global warming can end humanity. Terrorism can take lives from humanity, but can only end it if a bomb so powerful was created that it could destroy the earth. And it isn't likely that will happen. Global warming is undoubtedly real, and it is because religious people that people are not believing in it.

It is real but it is blown out of proportion. The Earth has natural warming and cooling phases. The ice age(s) is proof of that. The Earth is currently warming. There is no doubt that we are damaging the Earth, though. We are accelerating the warming but not causing it. Whether it is true or not, the important thing to realize is that we have one planet and we CAN"T let ourselves destroy it.

yes global warming is a real thing ,,and man has contributed to it. and the earth is fighting it. the fight to stop global warming started back in the 1970" with the hippies and it went over looked until now ,when it is too late ' global warming will just continue until the earth rebalanced it self . so were in for one hell of a ride and it will just get worse until the earth repairs it self . if man stoped all earth and ozone damaging products and industries right now it would still take the earth 10,000 years to correct itself . so were at the starting point of global flooding and climate change right now..and there's really nothing we can do to stop it ..

There is no question temperatures are getting warmer, glaciers are melting, and weather patterns are changing.
The question is two-part: how much is human's fault, and if so, is it reversible?
The evidence thus far suggests yes, and maybe. Those who say "no" to the first part tend to be conservatives seeing conspiracies, or people with a vested interest in fossil fuels.
To them we must ask, "what if you're wrong?" If there is something that we can do to prevent/curb the impact, we must.

Very true! Depending on where you live (and how long you have lived there), it is quite obvious that it is happening right in front of our eyes! Higher record temperatures everywhere, extreme weather (Katrina), and many other things that are happening "out of the ordinary," prove that global warming is something that is real and needs to be concerned about.
