Most of the time, I can't work not because of my mental illness, but because of the side effects of the medication, whether it makes you drowsy or makes you shake or whatever.

If the medication is causing such strong side effects,

then, let your Dr. know.

The Dr can have you adjust the dose down, taking less of it so you get the desired result, and avoid overwhelming side effects.
OR the Dr may move you to a different medication all together.

Psyc meds work a little differently on everybody. Trial and error can sometimes be the only method of finding the correct medication to minimize your symptoms without unpleasant side effects. Please be patient. It can take weeks or months before you find the right dose or the right combination.

It's a give and take situation. The patient and his/her doctor evaluate the benefits of taking a drug by opposing the desired versus side effects. Do you think that without taking the drug, you could work as much or even more than you do while taking it? I don't know about your mental illness but what about other aspects of you life. This is something you really need to speak with your doctor. And if I were you and still not getting the answers I need, I would check with someone else. Too many mental health specialists are into medicating. I am not against it but there is more that comes into place than just pills in the mental health department (it becomes too easy for some M.H.P. to rely on these wonder meds while forgetting the main ideas or responsibilities they have: to be our mental / spiritual guides which means to be standing by us as we walk the healing path)

I know that feeling all to well but you can ask your Doctor for some congentin and it will take the side effects away. As for the drowsiness maybe you could take the medication at night so that you will sleep it off. I am on a lot of meds too and I know what you mean the shakes suck. Good Luck

All medication has side effects. Every single prescription or over the counter drug has a side effect. More people die every year from pharmasuticals than from illegal drugs. In anycase what do you take the medication for and have you ever thought of looking into an alternative form of therapy instead?

I have xanax. I have anxiety also. However, you need something more for panic attacks. Also if xanax is not relaxing you then you do not need it. There are other anti-amxiety meds. Are you drinking too much caffeine? Cuz I suffer from the pa;lpitations too. Also I dont think it's taking the anxiety away at all thats why your heart does that causing it to be worse. You need valume. Im telling you, they work great for me. You also need a different doctor. Good luck, I know how bac it can get.

If the side effects are having such an impact on your life you should let your doctor know so you can switch to something that makes you functional. It does little good for your mood to improve if you still can't get out and work and whatnot.

It's because its a foreign substance going into your body. Chemical reaction so to speak. that and the combinations of different drugs interacting causes problems too. Most likely your doctor should be able to give you something different that make affect you less and help you more.
