A lot of people have gone through that sort of agony, myself included. All you have to do is like yourself for who you are, and find a way to work toward any goals you have. Getting a hobby or two helps too. Good luck!
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention . . . your emotions change as you get older. I notice that I don't feel things the same way I did when I was a teenager. I still get depressed from time to time (mostly because I want to move out and I can't afford to), but nothing like when I was a teenager. I'm 22 now, by the way.

See the self esteem websites, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris on pages 2 & 2a: read that section in full, and volunteer, even from home, at first, as a solid, realistic foundation for the daily affirmations. Keep in mind that external appearances (youthful "good looks") fade, in time, so work on making yourself a better person: someone you can like, respect, and even come to love, eventually. To do this, you will need to forgive (but not necessarily forget) those others, and also yourself, or it will hold you back. Regard the desire to attain perfection as being mentally unhealthy for you, and don't reward it in any way, if occasionally achieved. Instead, just want to do very well: honours, without distinction: a B+ or A- Use the thought reprogramming technique, to help achieve this.

Perhaps you are being influenced by the company you keep? There are tons of self-help books in the library but perhaps reading the newspaper and watching those shows on tele where they follow heartbreaking 'hospital/emergency' stories might make you realize how very lucky you are and that 'there is always someone worse off' than you are. Positive affirmations might be good for you also.

At some point, you give up and go into therapy. Counseling will help enormously. If you don't want to do that, try reading, "Cybernetics" by Dr. Maxwell, which talks about the self-talk you use and how to change it.

Start asking yourself how do you wish to be valued? Certainly not through your looks....Enrich your internal world, find your purpose in life, find your passion, focus on the larger things in life
