Someone said evilbible.com proves that the Bible contradicts itself and that God is not loving... the only thing it proved was that the person who runs it has not idea what they're talking about.

1. The "Rape in the Bible" section. One argument is: Death to the Rape Victim:(Deuteronomy 22:23-24 NAB)
If within the city a man comes upon a maiden who is betrothed, and has relations with her, you shall bring them both out of the gate of the city and there stone them to death: the girl because she did not cry out for help though she was in the city, and the man because he violated his neighbors wife.

they say: "It is clear that God doesn't give a damn about the rape victim. He is only concerned about the violation of another mans "property"."

The purpose of that passage is to say that if she LETS him have relations with her, NOT "if he rapes her, they wil both be stoned". Anyone can see that, especially if you read the whole chapter.

2. In the contradictions part, they're pretty much saying that God can't be pleased at one point, displeased at another, He can't be present in lightness and darkness, and they take quite a few of the verses out of context.

If you're going to say something is true, at least cite your "evidence" correctly.

gelfling: Many people make the mistake of believing the Bible says, “You shall not kill,” However, the Bible actually says, “You shall not murder” (Exodus 20:13). The Hebrew word literally means “the intentional, premeditated killing of another person with malice.” God often ordered the Israelites to go to war with other nations (1 Samuel 15:3; Joshua 4:13). God ordered the death penalty for numerous crimes (Exodus 21:12; 21:15; 22:19; Leviticus 20:11). So, God is not against killing in all circumstances, but rather only murder.

You're taking chunks of the scripture and using them to fit your purpose. But then again, if you don't believe in it, why does it bother you? :)

Since non-believers are only taking chunks of the bible and using it as they please (BTW, that's also foretold in the Bible), I figure this will be the last 'extra post' that I put on here to entertain their comments lol

Name calling is for children.

Amanda,

Sadly, the creators of that website and others like it don't care about providing legitimate evidence or citing verses correctly and in context. All they care about is pushing their anti-Christian, hate agenda, and if that means deceiving people in order to do it, then so be it. They rely heavily upon reader ignorance.

You are a moron. This passage infers rape by saying that she should be stoned to death be she didn't cry out for help even though she was in the city. If it was speaking of consensual sex it would say she should be stoned to death for violating her marriage vows or because she was an adulteress. Do you comprehend that? It says he should be stoned because he VIOLATED his neighbor's wife. Do you know the definition of violate? Here it is. To injure the person or property of, esp. to rape. How can you not understand that this is saying that she should die all because she didn't cry out? It doesn't take into account that she might be so stunned , ashamed or afraid that she couldn't call out. This is why God doesn't give a damn about the rape victim. Besides their are many more examples in the bible other than this passage that shows god isn't loving. Here are a few straight from the book!

If he really loved you women and cared about your feelings would this be in the bible? You should be submissive to your husband, you feelings be damned. That is pretty loving I think.

Ephesians 5:22-24
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

How about this? It not only says that beating someone is fine it also advocates slavery. Wow doubly full of love! This really takes into account people's feelings huh?

Exodus 21:20-21
If a man beats his male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies as a direct result, he must be punished, but he is not to be punished if the slave gets up after a day or two, since the slave is his property.

May be one more just to cover my bases. You get locked up for beating children today because it is child abuse. God condones it though.

Proverbs 22:15
Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

God forbid that a poor man might have to do some work on the sabbath to feed his family. He really cares about those hungry children.

Exodus 31:13-15
Six days my work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.

It is strange how such a loving god would be ok or condone any of this. Open your eyes!!!

And yet the section says that the test for whether she consented is whether or not she cried out. I am only human, so I'm stuck with merely rational means of judging evidence, not divine. I'll readily admit that. But is that a test that modern courts would consider accurate- any woman who does not scream loud enough is deemed to have consented and is no rape victim? The passage doesn't say kill her because she consented, it says kill her because she did not cry out.
There have been judges and juries who say so, but that conclusion shocks most of us. There are any number of reasons why a woman would not yell while being raped. Just as there are any number of reasons why a man would not yell while being robbed. Fear of immediate, severe harm is one of them. Wouldn't a wise, kind God know this? or do we ignore the words of the passage quoted and instead read into it additional details that would make it seem less draconian?

I still don't think the whole stoning part is a good thing either though.

So all the man has to say is she "let" him have relations? Did not the "divinely 'inspired'" bible consider force, coercion, manipulation and threats?

nah! Stone em! there's "divine" morality! ;)

people try to twist the bible in all sorts of ways. you did the right thing in testing out the scriptures. and the bible doesn't contradict itself ever.

Regardless of the alleged reasons, God COMMANDS his followers to KILL people. That's SICK and IMMORAL.

If that kind of thing impresses YOU, you're welcome to slobber all over him. I have higher standards than that, and would NEVER be a Christian.

Yes, they just take things out of context, just to justify they unbelief.
Not really intellectually honesty, I think. Well, not honest, period.
