It depends on what level of knowledge you are referring to. Higher knowledge can not exist without understanding, nor can higher knowledge exist without wisdom. And this issue is supported by the fact that unless you understand every single aspect of a specific reality or subject it is impossible to to truly "know" it, or you don't know as you "should" know. How can one truly "know" themselves or even know the world if they don't understand every aspect of themselves or the world? Knowing is the process of have complete awareness of a specific thing both inside and out, lesser knowledge is only a idea of knowledge when it comes to knowing, which is greater knowledge that is supported by understanding and having the wisdom or depth to see into the thing observed.
This knowledge is education, the true definition of education is derived from the Latin "Educo" which means to draw without (from the within), and it serves to say education in its true form is more so Enlightenment. And this very concept leads into the other part of the question, peace. Peace is in Enlightenment, having peace of mind refers to harmony, balance. How can one have peace if not by knowing the underlying purposes as to why things are the way they are? Often times suffering is a manifest of inner divisions, that is conflicting perspectives which cause confusion where you when approaching a situation don't know how to interpret it, and it is given a negative judgment. This means that we are truly the source of our own suffering and what invokes this outside of ourselves only serve as stimulus to a problem that exist within our perspectives. To have general peace, the storm within ones mind has to be calmed, this calmness is provided through knowing or having knowledge as to how or why these very things are occurring, knowledge of a higher perspective. This brings all the chaos of a situation into a single order, balanced is achieved in knowing, since you know how everything applies and why they were applied.
It is said that enlightenment is the end of suffering, and being enlightened is to be educated, and to be truly educated is to know.
EDIT - I didn't mention the lesser knowledge. The lesser knowledge is just the accumulation of data, but I don't perceive this is true knowledge which refers to actually knowing, to truly know something you have to understand the operation of it, or understand the different aspects that forms it. I suppose it comes down to if you consider knowing the same as knowledge, my answer is knowing is a greater sort of knowledge which can not be without understanding.

you can have knowledge without understanding, you can have peace without knowledge... sometimes I think the most peaceful people are the ones without knowledge,,,, it's easy to be peaceful when ignorance keeps you blind to the injustices that irritate many of us...
knowledge without understanding.... I could work this computer pretty well, but understanding the details of what make it do what I tell it to is something else....
What I completely know about? I know a little about everything, I know something about many things and I know a lot of things about somethings.. no one knows everything about any thing...

What are you trying to ask! You can have knowledge of something but you'll only understand that knowledge in so far as understand it. Peace doesnt require knowledge if you've never felt any reason not to be peaceful - but that is unrealistic. I completely understand that I have knowledge about what I understand....

I think that is a challenging question. You can acquire knowledge without understanding, if you define knowledge as the pure fact of becoming aware of something (its existence) without understanding its purpose or message.
You can have peace without knowledge, if you interpret this to mean peace without anything more than the most basic education on how to survive. I do subscribe to the idea that ignorance, for some, is bliss. So inner peace without knowledge could be squeezed into that same category.
As for what I completely understand... I understand I am responsible for myself, my actions, and how they impact those around me. I understand I have an obligation to live my life uniquely, freely, and with the intention to better the quality of life of those around me whenever possible. I understand that I must forgive, even when it pains me to do so, and to forgive myself for being imperfect. I understand that peace must be worked for, much like happiness, and is not a fixed state but an ever-changing process that is both fragile and strong enough to give others hope. I understand the physics of the world, the laws of nature, and that it is foolish for mankind to think ourselves greater than this and therefore worthy of the power to manipulate it for our own gain. And lastly, I understand the importance of communication.
Thanks for the interesting question!

the first question and answer is YES
I have received visions and dreams without understanding almost on a daily basis. as if the HOLY Ghost were showing me that prophecy of future things cannot always be understood.
I have knowledge of things I dont understand.
as for second question, it is written that knowledge can make a man miserable. but with More knowledge Misery can be overcome by changing perspective.
Peace can be given without any effort from a man who serves God, it can be a free gift of the spirit. But most often in the world of darkness Peace comes and goes and cannot be sustained without faith.

Knowledge is the key to peace. WIth knowledge and time comes wisdom, and wisdom tells us that peace is obtainable in a beautiful, non-violent way. Understanding allows us to gain knowledge, which in turn allows us to realize the futility of our violent, cynical pursuits. The key to understanding is the development of an extra-matrix view of the world. A matrix is a sort of "screen" of thoughts, traditions, language and culture through which we experience the world. Western philosophy seeks to create a "perfect" matrix, one in which everyone can agree on everything. It ignores that conflict is a part of the human condition and cannot be avoided. It can, however, be channeled into peaceful, non-violent outlets. An extra-matrix is a state in which one can be said to exist outside of one's own matrix, to see oneself in the third person. Once we take a good look at ourselves; what we feel, think and believe, we are able to reconcile differences with other matrices by coming to the realization that all matrices only differ in terms of detail. We are all human and there are certain thoughts and attitudes that are universal to all of us. With that in mind, we begin to realize that to understand something fully, one must see it from as many angles as posible. Only once humanity has discovered its extra-matrix understanding of itself will there be peace.

I seek knowledge and understanding. Its one reason I'm learning русски (Rooskee, or Russian in English). I also seek to expand my mind in the different subjects. The only time I don't take to gain knowledge and understanding, or utilize it to the best potential, is if its shoved down my throat. I had problems with this in School.
