.... From unfair pay??? What I mean is my employer told me that I was "exempt" from getting paid time and a half after 8 hours of work... and I usually work 14 hours a day, which I also heard that under the California Labor Law that if you work more than 12 hours a day you get paid Double?!?!?
I really would like to know if there is anyone out there that understands my question, and if I'am protected from this unfair pay of my employer???
Does anyone know where I can find hard solid proof that California has Laws protecting workers from this type of "exemption"???
I would appreciate it very much if anyone really understands if I qualify for time and a half and double time as a Bus operator in the state of California???
Thank you very much.

An exempt employee is normally a highly skilled professional such as a lawyer, physician, engineer, etc. A bus driver would never be an exempt employee.

It seems far-fetched that a government entity such as LA Country would be in violation of the FLSA but I guess anything is possible. File a complaint with your State Labor Board and the US Department of Labor.

It looks from this link http://www.workitout.ca.gov/viewfaq.asp?id=93&fid=123 that CA follows the federal model that overtime pay is based on the hours per week, not per day. Doesn't look like an issue of an exemption, just the basic law.

At the federal level, there used to be rules for overtime pay based on the hours worked in a day (over 8), but that's been gone for several years. It was probably changed due to the number of people who work their 40 hour weeks in 3 or 4 days.
