I suppose it would help if the Pope didn't say that Protestants are going to burn in hell.

I was raised by a Catholic Bashing Protestant....and I was raised Protestant. Last year, after a year of classes I converted to Catholisism. Funniest part of it was to see where other religions such as Protestant are truely rooted in Catholic beliefs and traditions, however they altered their religion to be able to brak the rules. They did this at a time when the Catholic church was in fact corrupt. Catholisim has had a lot of reform over the years, and has brought itself back to the origin of their beliefs and traditions. Protestants are judgemental about Catholics, and create drama by saying "Catholics...this, and Catholics that..." Really I have not found a more loving and welcoming and NON-Judgemental community as I have in the Catholic church. I always felt not good enough in the eyes of the Protestant church.
Why are they STILL fighting? The Protestants are never taught the full history of their church, so they do not know what they are fighting about or why, and they still try to utilize the initial argument, without researching the facts.
I don't believe the Catholics are fighting.....

"protestants" is the correct term. They disagree with the traditions and ceremonies and consider the Catholic beliefs to be archaic and like a monarch system of hierarchy. The protestants "protested" the old ways of Catholics and other Christian religions for a more personal relationship with Jesus and more scripture-based teachings rather than traditions and sacraments.

What looks like fighting to some, is debate to others, and dialogue to still more.
"The Catholic Church embraces with hope the commitment to ecumenism as a duty of the Christian conscience enlightened by faith and guided by love…Jesus himself, at the hour of his Passion, prayed 'that they may all be one' (John 17:21)." -- Pope John Paul II, Ut Unum Sint, May 25, 1995.
The Catholic Church in the United States already has the following open dialogs with her sister Churches:
- The North American Orthodox-Catholic Theological Consultation
- The Joint Committee of Orthodox and Catholic Bishops
- The Oriental Orthodox-Roman Catholic Consultation
- The Polish National Catholic-Roman Catholic Dialogue
- The Anglican-Roman Catholic Consultation USA
- The Lutheran-Catholic Dialogue
- Roman Catholic-Reformed Consultation
- The United Methodist-Catholic Dialogue
- Southern Baptist Convention-Catholic Dialogue
- The Evangelical-Catholic Dialogue
- Faith and Order Commission, National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA
- Consultation with the National Council of Synagogues
- Consultation with the Orthodox Union and the Rabbinical Council of America
- Midwest Dialogue of Catholics and Muslims
- Mid-Atlantic Dialogue of Catholics and Muslims
- West Coast Dialogue of Catholics and Muslims
Here is the joint declaration of justification by Catholics (1999), Lutherans (1999), and Methodists (2006):
By grace alone, in faith in Christ's saving work and not because of any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping us and calling us to good works.

Because both sides are Christians and they still cannot agree on what the Bible says. It's "us against them" mentality.
Isn't it ironic that all Christians refer to the Bible to prove their point, but they cannot agree on anything among themselves!
EVERY religion advertises itself as a "religion of peace," but all of them FIGHT with each other.
Tells you how intelligent religious people are...

Such Christians feel the need to go on the offensive against other Christians because they seek righteousness in the self.
Those Christians of a more ecumenical mind seek righteousness in God.

That's the way it is!
You either SIDE with the POPE and the CHURCH
Or you DECIDE for yourself
Most CATHOLICS are actually PROTESTANTS in disguse.
They have abortions
The use birth control
The break the rules
BUT they are allowed CONFESSION to clear them
Protestants doen't have that luxury
They are SUPPOSED to reamain pure
Many don't!

tur b is just being polite....you'll have to excuse him....we're really out to beat the **** out of each other. ; ).
the problem is that Catholics and "fundies", as tur b so eloquently puts it, can never agree as to the infallibilty of Scripture. Catholics trust the dictates of man over God, Christians believe the Bible to be God's final Word, no matter what version of history a catholic will tell you.
