Well for me, it was based upon an experience...
My parents did not go to church, but I was sent.
I started to study...really study...scripture as a teen...and to be honest, I became very disillusioned with the modern day church. I was certain if Jesus walked into my very traditional church and sat down, He would not have been recognized. Had He spoken His truth, in comparison to our traditions, He would probably have been asked to leave.
I think true faith in the living Christ is the result of an epiphany. I think you experience Him in a way that changes your life from that point on. People start reading here and there and taking things out of context and the next thing you know, they're confused and disillusioned. Focus on Jesus and His teachings, read the rest in the context of this and it becomes very clear.
I attend what's called a "river" church in the Assemblies of God, but by heritage I'm actually a birthright Quaker...but I consider myself a Baptiquakacathacostal.
I say that as a joke, but I see all these "denominations" as part of the body of Christ. Sadly, through our human devisiveness, we have segregated ourselves so much...but I think there is an element or a couple of elements of His nature that denominations fixate on...like 12 blind men trying to describe an elephant from just one touch.
My great grandfather was what was commonly called a "rounder" back in his day. Vulgar. Unfaithful. Mean to the point of abusive, both in word and action.
One day, in his middle age, he went out into the fields in a rage and came back a changed man. He never described what happened to him out there, but his life changed in a dramatic fashion. He died a Sunday School teacher, and parented the most gentle, Christlike soul I have ever met on this earth...my grandfather.

Well, nobody ever asks me that, but since you just did... I have faith because when the chips are down, Christ has always been there. He's the knot at the end of my rope. With him, I am never alone; when I feel like I have nobody, I still have him, he carries me. When I ask for things, from the heart (as opposed to selfish requests), he and God always answer.

Because the Bible tells Christians to have faith in Christ. As a Christian I may not follow all the teachings of the Bible, but this is one teaching that I do follow. You can't be a Christian without faith.

Faith not based on fact is fantasy. The "Faith" of those of The True Christian Faith is base on the individuals personal relation ship with God. Each one of The Faith knows what God has given them and what he has done for them... God The Creator is The Fact that insures the Faith of Those of The Faith... We know The Truth of God... so we can have faith that what He tells us and promises us will be as he says.

On the surface your question sounds silly, but as I thought about it I had a hard time putting together an answer - so I don't know if you really want an answer or not, but thank you for a question that made me think.
So, what is my answer? The Bible does not tell me to have faith in Jesus. But it does show me that Jesus is the messiah, the son of "man", that Jesus loves us all and that God loves us also. God, wanting to know mankind, made himself flesh in the form of his Son, Jesus, who was born from a woman just like you and I. Jesus grew from infant to toddler, learned to walk and chew solid food. Just like you and I. He worked. He was educated. He learned about God and scripture. And then one day while he was praying outside of town, a bunch of men came and arrested him. He was beaten, whipped so badly that the skin on his body was torn away, humiliated and spat upon, and then nailed to a tree where people stood around waiting for him to suffocate to death. This is what our all-powerful and all-knowing God did for me. And you. And us all. How could I not have faith, and hope, in Jesus after that?

Because I do not have near enough faith in mankind not to have faith in Jesus finished work on the cross.
The truth is I have a real close relationship with GOD through the Holy Spirit. It's not really a matter of faith for me anymore. It just is.

the Bible has all the answers. still, for the people who think the bible is a hoax, this explanation will not suffice.
i think basically it all boils down to faith and what it is. are you all about strong, tangible [scientific] evidence? or can you have faith in something that may not be scientifically proven but feels so true in your heart and soul?

Why not. If I'm wrong , then nothing happens, But IF I am right, Think of all the possibilities. Don't give up 5 minutes before the miracle happens. Good Luck, PRAISE GOD

What about non-christians...I get asked that too just because, I think, I'm a middle aged white male. The various christians that come knockin' on my door look absolutely shocked when I tell them we're not christian. (I'm not just jtalking about jehovah's witness, we get baptist and presbyterians as well)
Is there no room in your philosophy...?
