JD is partially right....but the part he's right on doesn't apply to you.
You *can* legally cut down any weapon you own as long as it's not so short it falls under the NFA rules. A shotgun can be cut down to 18" legally....18.5" is recommended to be safe....and a rifle can be cut down to 16"....16.5" is suggested to be on the safe side. It *is*, however, illegal for you to cut them down with the intent of charging anyone for the work without you being a licensed gunsmith.
You can cut your own guns....you can even cut other's guns (it's never been ruled against, anyway)....but you CAN'T cut anyone else's and charge them without being licensed.
As to the mechanics of "how", I'm going to not respond to that. I don't think you should be doing it and I won't assist you in making a mistake.

The gun may legally be cut to 16 inches long or longer. Use a wood rimmed vise and a hacksaw and get it as straight as possible. You can use a piece of masking tape around the barrel as a guide. You will need a crowning tool once the barrel is cut. This is chucked up in a power drill and mills the end of the barrel much like a pencil sharpener works. Do a lot of research on this before you do it. If the crown is not perfect, it will decrease the accuracy dramatically. I answered your other question earlier... you will find a few other negative ramifications in that response.

As I just answered your first question a few minutes ago.YOU CAN'T. You will ruin the gun as the barrel and rifling were not designed to be cut down. Besides, It's a federal offense and a crime to saw off a gun barrel , without a BATF Firearms Manufacturers license.

JD is completely right. there is no reason to saw off the barrel, and you cant anyway without taking it to a certified gunsmith.

You can not have a barrel shorter than 18.5 inches.
Most likely you can buy on a shorter barrel at www.midway.com

you don't. take it to a professional gunsmith and have them do it. i'm still wondering why you want to do this? spend the money on something worth while, like another gun!
