Cats can certainly love their humans. Ours will follow me around & sit near me, even if I'm scrubbing the floor, although there are plenty of more comfortable places they could relax if they wanted to. Our 10 year old cat (who we adopted 6 years ago) meets me @ the front door & wants to be picked up like a kitten.
Sure, they appreciate being fed too, but so do we.

I would say it depends on what cat, with which human. I've only met one cat who didn't like anyone, and she ran away from everyone, unless they had food. She'd even walk right in front of you and pee on the carpet then run away, just to spite you.
But like I said shes been the only one, all the other cats I've met have at least one person that they love unconditionally. Its a wonderful thing.

I think that they love us because we're the ones that care for them and they know we love them. Cats can be selfish and only give you love when it's convenient for them but I don't think they use us for food. I just think they depend on us for food and love us at the same time. Oh, and I was just wondering what "you wish you were me" meant when saying that his cat uses him for sex. That's a little disturbing.

I think it depeds on the cat. we have a few cats that just out of the blue would take up to me and be very loyal. we have tons of cats to. i never really feed the cats either, but for the most part cats are more territorial then dogs, and dogs are more people loyal.

I have always heard that cats just use us for food. I don't believe that. My cat is always head butting me, rubbing me and sleeps with her head in my hand. If she is just using me for food, why would she show me affection at times when she is not hungry?
